Saint Augustine Church - Director of Music Ministry I. Overview: As the Part-Time Music Director, you will be the pastoral leader of our parish’s music ministry tasked with forming and leading our gathered assembly to praise God through song. You will select music, and lead worship for weekend liturgies and special events, in collaboration with the Parish Life Coordinator, presider, and Liturgy Committee. II.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Plays, as well as, provides music, cantor(s), and musicians for all weekend (3 Masses) and major celebrations, weddings, funerals, and other special events. 2. Plans engaging, suitable, and appropriate music while building a parish repertoire of hymns, tunes, and Mass settings. 3. Leads a small musical group that plays at 11am Mass and rehearses 30 minutes prior. 4. Work with a representative from the Signing Choir to ensure music selection is easily interpreted for our parishioners who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing. 5. Arrange for a competent substitute when unavailable. 6. Manage music resources—hymnals, sheet music, licensing—and ensure instruments are tuned and maintained. 7. Oversees maintenance and care of the sound system. 8. Other duties as assigned. III.
Qualifications 1. Strong proficiency in both organ and piano and excellent vocal skills. 2. Familiarity with Catholic liturgical structure, guidelines, and documents. 3. Diverse musical knowledge including contemporary Catholic music, traditional hymns, and Praise and Worship style of music. 4. Passionate about developing the gathered assembly. 5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others. 6. Appreciation for the deaf community and willingness to work with deaf leaders 7. Ability to supervise volunteers. IV. Compensation Reporting to the Parish Life Coordinator, the Director of Music Ministry will receive a flat fee of $150 per event - Mass, special celebration, etc. - plus a generous hourly wage for time spent planning, creating programs, etc.
