Saint Thomas More in Brooklyn, Ohio Job Title: Director of Music Part Time Benefits: continuing education opportunities Qualifications: Master degree in music or closely related field preferred; Bachelor degree required with minimum of five (5) years’ experience within a comparable position Comprehensive knowledge of Catholic liturgical documents and music within liturgy Proficient skills in organ or piano Proficient skills in choral conducting and knowledge of choral repertoire Advanced skills in leading congregation during worship Proficient managerial and budgeting skills Proficient in computer, electronic, and musical software Ability to work as a member of a vibrant leadership team The Director of Music serves as the principal accompanist and choirmaster of the parish. When cantors are not available, the Director of Music should be able to accompany and lead the congregation at liturgies. The Director of Music will be responsible for planning, coordinating and continually developing all aspects of the music ministry. Director of Music reports directly to the Pastor.
Responsibilities: Select music for all parish liturgies and para-liturgical services. Principal organist or pianist and cantor at weekend services: 4:30pm Saturdays, 9:00am Sunday, Provide oversight of musical and clerical staff members. Oversight of the production of worship aids for all parish liturgies and funerals. Primary conductor of the parish choral program. N.B. the parish choir will need to be rejuvenated. Provide consulting and musical services for funerals and weddings. Director of Music has right of first refusal for funerals and weddings. Oversight of maintenance of musical instruments. Oversee school liturgy mass planning Hire outside musicians as needed for liturgies and concerts
