General Accountant

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. It is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic was installed as the 12th Bishop of Cleveland on September 14, 2020. The diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne and Ashland. There are more than 670,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities- Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. There are 185 parishes, 107 Catholic schools, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the diocese. The cathedral is the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, located in downtown Cleveland. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Transactional accounting support for the Angel Scholarship Fund and the Diocesan Tuition Assistance process.
- Preparation of internal monthly financial statements for Diocesan entities (benefit plans, Office of Catholic Education, Angel Scholarship Fund of the Catholic Community Foundation).
- Provide support to the Diocesan Controller.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support and preparation of monthly workpapers and financial statements for Diocesan entities as assigned (bank reconciliations, investment reconciliations, journal entries and lead schedules).
- Assist with revenue and expense reconciliations related to Angel Scholarship Fund and Diocesan Tuition Assistance initiatives.
- Record, review and monitor online giving deposits.
- Assist with other Education Office requests and analyses.
- Assist with year-end audit support for Diocesan and Catholic Community Foundation entities and offices as assigned.
- Form 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC preparation.
- Provide assistance to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.
- Investment administration including reconciliations, fee processing and filing of paperwork; quarterly parish investment reconciliation and asset allocation monitoring.
- File maintenance (including workpaper files, bank and investment statements).
- Assistance with financial analysis and special projects, as requested by Diocesan Controller.
- Prefer Associate Degree (2 or 4 year program) with focus in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field or related work experience.
- Experience with MS Excel required. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar financial software database a plus.
