St. Joseph Parish in Howell is now accepting applications for a full time (40 hours per week) Custodian.
General Summary: Performs routine cleaning of equipment, buildings, grounds, to ensure safety to all persons, including staff and parishioners, and to extend the life and appearance and cleanliness of these items. Assist with the set up and take down of events.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure.
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers, replace light bulbs, refill restroom dispensers.
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
- Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
- Lock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
- Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs in areas within sixteen feet of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. .
- Reporting directly to the Facility Supervisor
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work as assigned
Who We Are Looking For:
- Friendly, outgoing personality with a desire to provide superior hospitality to our parish
- Prior custodial and/or banquet set up experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to lift and carry light to heavy loads up to 50 pounds
- Ability to assist in the set up and tear down of tables, chairs, and other conference center items, and ensure proper set up of conference rooms and other spaces according to set up instructions.
- Must be able to work with others in a team atmosphere.

- Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
- Evenings and some weekends are a regular part of this positions schedule

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands: Must be able to move and load equipment and supplies that weigh 50 pounds or more. Must be able to work independently without direct supervision. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders.
