Part-Time Director of Sacred Music
We are seeking a qualified individual to serve as our Part-Time Director of Sacred Music. In collaboration with the pastor, this position plays a vital role in supporting the Gospel message during liturgy and through sacred music that inspires the assembly to live out their faith more fully.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liturgical Understanding: Deepen the understanding of the assembly through thoughtfully chosen songs.
- Increase Liturgy Attendance: Enhance regular attendance at liturgies through the quality of music selected and learned by the assembly.
- Music Program Development: Collaborate with the worship committee/parish staff to expand music programs within the parish.
- Cantor Recruitment and Training: Recruit, train, and sustain high-quality cantors for parish liturgies.
- Worship Coordination: Coordinate staffing for all liturgies with competent musicians and singers.
- Music Planning: Participate in planning liturgies with the pastor and be primarily responsible for music selections.
- Musical Instrument Maintenance: Ensure musical instruments used for liturgies are properly maintained.
- Copyright Permission: Obtain copyright permission for music used in worship.
- Liturgical Formation: Provide formation, education, and practical preparations for cantors/leaders of song, choral, and instrumental groups.
- Resource Consultant: Serve as a resource consultant for parish staff and groups regarding pastoral music.
- Magisterial Texts: Have or acquire familiarity with magisterial texts on sacred music in the liturgy.
- Parish Staff Meetings: Attend all parish staff meetings.
- Budget Formulation: Develop and adhere to an annual music ministry budget.
- Professional Development: Continue to develop music ministry skills through courses/workshops and conferences.
Preferred qualifications include two years of experience in music ministry and a bachelor's degree in sacred music or liturgical music. Experience playing the organ is also preferred.
