Part-time Latin Teaching Position
St. Mary Catholic Classical School is committed to assisting parents in the formation of their children by engaging in a classical education where students unify faith and reason to carry the light of truth to the world. By helping students strive for academic excellence, delight in the gift of learning, and imitate the virtues of Jesus Christ, children will be joyfully compelled to live a life of knowledge, love, and service.
The school seeks a Latin classroom teacher to help lead students to wholeness in the image of Jesus Christ. Under the leadership and direction of the principal and under the care of the pastor of the parish, the key duties of the teacher will be:
- To participate in a faculty culture of faith and friendship centered on the love of Christ and the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
- To foster joyful order in the classroom and school and help inspire in students a sense of wonder and a delight in learning.
- To help instill in students a piety for God and a love of neighbor.
- To form students and call them to virtuous living through the implementation of an intentional discipline policy.
- To teach a variety of disciplines to students: Catechesis, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and History
- To work with school leadership in coaching sessions with the goal of improving in the craft of teaching.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with current Michigan teacher certification (or readily certifiable, or willing to work toward certification); agreement with and support of the Catholic worldview; a strong commitment to Catholic education and the Classical Model of education. Please indicate any areas of expertise or subjects of interest.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Teaching experience at a Classical school or willingness and openness to be training; Teaching certification; Advanced degree. Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, the Disciple of Christ-Education in Virtue curriculum.
