St. John the Baptist Parish in Ypsilanti is now accepting applications for a Part-time (19-25 hrs/wk) Receptionist.
GENERAL SUMMARY: As the first person of contact for visitors and parishioners at the Parish Office, the Receptionist is committed to supporting the mission of our parish: To form a community of Spirit-filled, missionary disciples of Jesus. This person creates a welcoming and inviting environment and assists with various administrative functions.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Secretarial Duties
- Greets and refers visitors to the appropriate ministers, services, or agencies.
- Receives and places telephone calls, types memos and other types of written communication, and processes mail.
- Oversees the timely opening and secure closing of the office each day.
- Assist with maintenance of office record-keeping and filing systems.
- Attends staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Assist with the management of office supply inventory.
- Coordinates volunteer programs as needed.
- Assists Office Manager in all other duties as assigned.
Supporting Parish Activities
- Prepares and produces the weekly bulletin. Gathers and edits the content and lay-out of the bulletin and completes it in time for final printing.
- Assists with maintenance of the sacramental record keeping system. Records all weddings, baptisms, and funerals.
- Assists with Holiday and Holy Day preparations.
- Schedules and coordinates Mass intentions.
- Keeps reception area and Gathering Space neat and orderly.

- Must be familiar with and agree with the basic principles of parish renewal outlined in Divine Renovation: Bringing Your Parish from Maintenance to Mission by Fr. James Mallon.
- Be a team player who is approachable, affable and winsome.
- Be proficient in Google Workspace applications, Microsoft Publisher and Office Suite.
- Pass a background check and attend local training for the protection of children and youth.
- Employee is expected to work onsite and offsite when needed. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
- Physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, stooping, and occasionally lifting boxes or bags that weigh up to 40 pounds.
