What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Religious Education - Pre K - 5 position at Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls?
Holy Spirit Parish in Sioux Falls is seeking a mission minded Catholic to serve in the role of Director of Religious Education for children in grades Pre-K–5. This position is responsible for the faith formation of children, including sacramental preparation, in accordance with the catechetical norms of the Diocese of Sioux Falls and the religious education program description of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans and directs church faith formation, religious education programs in accordance with the Church’s Magisterium and sacred traditions, including First Reconciliation and First Communion.
- Plans and directs sacrament preparation programs.
- Plans and directs Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
- Invites, motivates, and forms volunteers to serve as responsible catechists.
- Organize and direct volunteer catechists for religious education programs.
- Collaborates with the pastor to select and purchase texts and materials and instruct catechists in their use.
- Integrates study of the liturgical season and the life of the Church into the religious education and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum.
- Collaborates with the pastor to draft, explain, and defend the catechetical budget to the appropriate decision-making bodies.
- Maintains policies and records to ensure compliance with the Diocese of Sioux Falls Safe Environment Program.
- Establishes communication with families through the use of approved communication methods.
- Directs the Birth to 3 Program and communicates with parents of newly baptized children.
Qualifications:
- Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
- Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.
