OverviewEstablished by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924 CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.This is a dual role opportunity for a part-time (.6FTE) RN position in Maternal Services at CHI Health - Good Samaritan.25 FTE as a RN Clinical Educator and .35 FTE as a Perinatal Safety SpecialistResponsibilitiesRN Clinical Educator - Maternal ServicesPromotes excellence, as a frontline nurse leader, in clinical nursing care and contributes to the professional growth and development of nursing staff through clinical education and professional development activities in support of the CHI Health Nursing Strategic Plan and Vision. Responsible for collaboratively implementing education initiatives and priorities as established by CHI Health nursing division and campus leadership. Acts as change agent and mentor while promoting interdisciplinary teamwork and evidence based practice and teaching. Assists nursing staff and profession in acquisition of skills, knowledge and competencies through needs assessment and development of implementation plan for programs.Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesAssesses, researches, coordinates / facilitates, implements, and evaluates educational and professional development programs, services and systems as established by CHI Health nursing division and / or campus leadership.Acts as role model, clinical nursing expert, change agent, mentor, and leader to the campus and CHI Health nursing division.Serves as a consultant for organizational, divisional, and system initiatives and program development as related to nursing practice.Actively seeks out evidence based practice and findings and applies to clinical excellence and education.Provides clinical expertise and leadership to quality improvement initiatives.Coordinates and facilitates nursing transitions to practice and ongoing professional development through support of central onboarding, clinical orientation, nurse residency, fellowships, competency assessment, and preceptor and mentor programs.Contributes to the development and maintenance of educational tools and resources, integrating adult learning theories, organizational development principles and system approach.Other duties as assigned by leadership.Perinatal Safety SpecialistReporting to the Director of Perinatal Services, the Perinatal Safety Specialist is responsible for the implementation, promotion, support and oversight of perinatal patient safety and quality of care initiatives and programs. This specialized nursing role combines clinical expertise with a focus on patient safety to provide high-quality care and support to pregnant women and their families, adhering to departmental, institutional, regional and Federal clinical and ethical standards. The perinatal safety nurse will participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance perinatal care processes and outcomes, contributing to a culture of safety within the healthcare facility.The primary responsibility of the perinatal patient safety nurse is to promote safe care for mothers and babies by keeping patient safety as a focus of all unit operations and clinical practices.Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesEnsures all care providers on Maternal Child Health adhere to national clinical standards and principles and practice of safety.Serves as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in perinatal nursing obstetrics : Keeps staff up to date on Perinatal Safety Initiatives, including education, training, implementation, policies.Keeps abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and the CommonSpirit Health Perinatal Safety Initiatives.Disseminates pertinent safety and specialty related information.Participates in patient safety or administrative rounding.Presents patient and staff safety concerns to appropriate clinical forumsParticipates in and contributes to departmental performance review activities by identifying issues and assisting with gathering and evaluating data, including corporate data entry.Assists and supports the healthcare team when an adverse event or untoward outcome occurs.Develops and supports the implementation of education / action plans to address events that are reported in the event reporting system.Implements and supports patient safety and quality of care initiatives : Collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership to deliver survey results to participants. Works with clinical and administrative leadership to address themes and issues identified by the surveyPromotes, assists and supports competency based education. Performs periodic follow-up to confirm that clinicians have completed their educationImplements and supports Perinatal Safety initiatives as identified by Clinical LeadershipMonitors clinical outcomesAbstracts, records, analyses and reports Perinatal Safety data per CommonSpirit Health guidelinesAssesses the documentation of charts reviewed and provides feedback to clinicians.Encourages staff to identify and report adverse events and near-missesPerforms collaborative reviews of adverse occurrences and near-misses. Incorporates findings into educational efforts.Participates in Event Investigation Analysis (EIA)Coordinates and evaluates briefing, debriefing and analysis of selected charts with healthcare team members.Contributes to Fetal Monitor (EFM) strip reviews and provide staff with feedback on findingsFacilitates interdisciplinary communication and education : Provides regular patient safety educational programs for staff.Facilitates clinical drills for high-risk situations; tracks and reports attendancePromotes the adoption of briefing and debriefing skills across disciplinesFosters and promotes participation by all clinicians in educational programs and clinical drills.Facilitates and supports teamwork-training programs for all department members.Attends and actively contributes to Perinatal Safety network workgroups, conference calls, regional meetings and annual summitPartners with hospital informatics department to ensure the EHR aligns with current perinatal safety initiativesPartners with the IT department to ensure smooth integrations.Ensures data / information is current with regulatory agency standards as well as best practice standards for service areas.QualificationsRN Clinical EducatorBSN required. Master’s Degree in Nursing or completion of MSN program within 5 years of start dateActive RN licensure in the state of Nebraska, Iowa, or nurse licensure compact. Basic life support is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following : American Heart Association : Basic Life Support.Nursing education experience demonstrating progressive experience in the development and implementation of clinical education programs. Minimum three years relevant nursing experience. Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written). Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Knowledge and application of advanced nursing skills. Ability to critically think in complex situations.Perinatal Safety SpecialistBachelor’s of Science in Nursing requiredMaster’s degree or higher preferredA minimum of 5 years as a clinician in Women’s ServicesA minimum of 2 years of project experience in Women and Infants Perinatal SafetyExperience with quality improvement / process improvement techniques, project / program management experience, requiredCurrent RN License in applicable StateCertification in one of the following : CCRN-NEO, C-EFM, RN-BC MCN, RN-BC-PERI, RNC [OB, GYN, NEONATAL], RNC-LRN, RNC-MNN, RNC-NIC, RNC-OB, C-EFMBLSNRP within 90 daysPay Range$36.94 - $53.56 / hourWe are an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer.
