Job Summary and Qualifications
Direct the financial reporting, accounting, payroll and accounts payable functions of CMC Healthcare System and all of its subsidiaries. This includes, but is not limited to Catholic Medical Center, Physician Practice Associates, Alliance Resources, Alliance Enterprises, Alliance Ambulatory Services and Alliance Health Services, St. Peter’s Home and McGregor Street MOB. Support the finance division in maintaining sound financial policies and internal controls.
Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer and the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Finance/Controller, and within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Directs the accounting staff in preparation and distribution of timely and accurate financial statements for CMC Healthcare System and its subsidiaries using generally accepted accounting principles for internal and external use.
Responsible for development and preparation of financial reports for CMC Healthcare System, including balance sheets and statement of operations. Designs and prepares custom reports to guide and support the decision making activities of management.
Provides detailed written summaries of financial results to Senior Leadership which includes a thorough analysis and clarification of significant budget to actual variances.
Prepare board and committee materials aligned with requests and normal distribution schedules..
Performs technical accounting research, and ensures Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are applied appropriately and timely in all financial reports. Stays current on new guidance impacting accounting and tax reporting.
Responsible for oversight and coordination of fixed asset accounting. Oversees maintenance of property ledgers. Includes original purchase cost, useful lives and depreciation for book and tax purposes, transfers, disposals, and facility renovations.
Directs accounts payable activities for CMC Healthcare System and all of its subsidiaries ensuring that proper internal controls and procedures are implemented and maintained. Ensures that Oracle software files are updated and properly maintained, making sure that distributions and postings to GL are completed correctly. Works closely with Materials Management and Purchasing Departments to assure proper authorization for payment and other related issues are addressed.
Responsible for oversight of payroll activities for CMC Healthcare System ensuring proper internal controls and procedures are implemented and maintained. Ensures that Oracle software is updated and properly maintained, making sure that distributions and postings to the GL are completed correctly. Works closely with Human Resources to assure proper payment processing and the integrity of data inputs.
Oversees the preparation and timely reporting of quarterly and annual bond covenants. Supports data requests for bond rating agencies.
Directs preparation of various external financial reports (i.e. NHHA monthly financial and statistical report, yearly abandoned property report). Verifies these reports for accuracy assuring they are completed on a timely basis.
Completes periodic review of intercompany transactions to ensure that payables and receivables are reconciled between organizations and paid on a timely basis.
Oversees accounting function for CMC Healthcare affiliates, including Alliance Health Services, Physician Practice Associates, Alliance Resources, Alliance Enterprises, McGregor Street MOB, Doctors Medical Associates, Alliance Ambulatory Services, and St. Peter’s Home. Ensures that generally accepted accounting principles are applied.
Assures accurate and timely preparation of Federal and State income tax returns for CMC Healthcare System and all of its subsidiaries.
Collaborates on and coordinates external financial statement audit and Uniform Guidance audit. Works closely with external auditors, serving as primary communication link between CMC finance staff and external audit staff. Verifies audit schedules for accuracy and prepares lead schedules and audited financial statements with accompanying footnotes.
Assists in preparation of CMC operating and capital budget for CMC Healthcare System and all of its subsidiaries.
Directs continuous process improvement initiatives within areas of responsibility resulting in increased productivity while maintaining or improving quality of work.
Implement and maintain internal controls for CMC Healthcare System and its subsidiaries.
Monitor and record investment activity of CMC Healthcare System assets.
Collaborates with Director of Reimbursement on various accounting and reimbursement challenges facing CMC.
Directs the external audit of the defined benefit pension plan and retirement savings plan.
Assists CMC Healthcare Systems insurance broker in acquiring all insurance coverage for CMC Healthcare System and its subsidiaries. Completes annual renewal for CMC’s self-insured workers compensation plan and provides recommendations as necessary.
Informs Executive Director of Finance/Controller of challenges / opportunities / issues affecting the finance area.
Works on and completes other duties and special projects as required by the Executive Director of Finance/Controller.
Provides leadership, support, guidance and direction to a cross-functional accounting team which includes, but is not limited to:
Interview and selection and onboarding of new team members.
Ensures strong communication of team roles, responsibilities, scope of authority and identifies areas for training, development and succession planning.
Actively manages performance of team through on-going coaching, discipline and annual performance evaluations and corresponding merit increases.
Prepares departmental budget and works within established budgetary guidelines. Makes recommendations and participates with administration in major changes in staffing and services provided by the department. Reviews specifications and coordinates the purchase or replacement of equipment and material.
Participates as needed in emergency management initiatives including but not limited to disasters and disaster drills, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations.
Ensures confidentiality of financial information and hospital matters.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
MBA or CPA desired.
Experience:
5 yrs accounting experience within a healthcare or complex multi-subsidiary organization required.
3 years’ management / supervisory experience
Microsoft Office products and Oracle (or other large ERP) skills required
Three years financial experience in healthcare industry desired.
