Manager of Infection Prevention (Full-Time Days) - Infection Control

Who You Are:

Catholic Medical Center is seeking a Manager of Infection Prevention. You oversee the day-to-day operations, development, and evaluation of the infection prevention and control program. You’re responsible for hiring, educating, and managing staff in the Infection Prevention Department, conducting surveillance for case finding, monitoring outbreaks, and ensuring compliance with state health department reporting rules. As a Manager you develop evidence-based policies and procedures to manage infectious diseases, prevent healthcare-associated infections, and control the spread of infections across the health system. You ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies and serve as an educational resource for all employees on infection prevention and control issues in both hospital and ambulatory settings.


What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborates with the Executive Director Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Prevention to develops and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the prevention of healthcare associated infections and visitor and staff communicable disease exposure. Continually evaluates program effectiveness and modifies as needed.
  • Implements evidence based infection control strategies in accordance with recommendations/requirements, not limited to but includes, CDC, OSHA, CMS, and accrediting organizations.
  • Analyzes routine surveillance data throughout the organization; presents surveillance data to appropriate committees and/or clinical groups; identifies and analyzes health issues and their impact on patient care throughout CMC.
  • In collaboration with the CMC Employee Health Program, monitors employee exposures to patient's blood and body fluids, needle stick injuries, communicable diseases, safety related issues and immunizations.
  • Develops and presents disease specific educational programs and formal and informal educational sessions. Education is designed to provide staff with the tools to understand and comply with professional and regulatory agency standards and guidelines for Infection Prevention.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Prevention and the Infectious Disease Chair (when appropriate), performs high level investigations of epidemiologically significant healthcare associated infections, such as: Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSls); mechanical ventilator associated events (VAE); Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI); high risk Surgical Site Infections (SSI), outbreaks of healthcare associated infections, multi-drug resistant organisms.
  • Monitors for and analyzes the incidence of community and healthcare acquired epidemiologically significant communicable diseases and emergence of highly pathogenic and high threat communicable diseases. Institutes system wide control measures to prevent healthcare associated transmission.
  • Recommends, develops, maintains and/or updates new or revised infection prevention and control policies and procedures in collaboration with healthcare teams, using evidence based practice guidelines. Also, ensures that the infection prevention policies and procedures are current according to hospital policy and in accordance with APIC, accrediting agencies, OSHA (including the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard), CDC, and NH DES/EPA guidelines.
  • Conducts an annual facility risk assessment, infection prevention plan and annual report in coordination with the Infection Prevention Committee and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Periodically inspects all food preparation and storage areas, within the hospital, to ensure compliance with safe food preparation, storage, cleaning and sanitation.
  • Collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies and reports identified trends/communicable diseases and safety issues among the employees and/or the community and engages stakeholders when appropriate. Serves as liaison to public health officials.


What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare, epidemiology, microbiology or a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years relevant experience.
  • Certification in Infection Control, (CIC) if not current upon hire, will obtain within two years.
  • Experience in adult education.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and procedures pertaining to Infection Control, including disinfection and sterilization techniques.
