Classroom Aide/Assistant Teacher - Schools in the Archdiocese of NY with NYC 3K and Prek for All programs:
A variety of opportunities for classroom support positions in Catholic Schools in NYC are open in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island. Candidates who are experienced in working with young children in a school setting as well as those who want to learn best practices as they consider a career in education are encouraged to apply. All positions are for the school year, September through June on days when schools are in session. Current openings will be filled immediately by qualified candidates.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teacher Aide or Teacher Assistant will work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other members of the classroom team to ensure the successful operation of a classroom with a total of 15-20 children, ages 3 through 5. Full time 7 hours a day when school is in session. Some programs have part time options for 5 hours. February1st start date preferred.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As part of the greater school community as well as of the 3K for All/Prek for All program, the candidate will be expected to assume a range of responsibilities, including:
- Assist all members of the classroom team in implementing a child-centered, quality early childhood program that supports the success of all students in daily interactions and skill/knowledge acquisition.
- Actively contribute to a safe, warm and supportive classroom environment.
- Implement positive behavior guidance and support for all children in collaboration with school, regional and other support staff. This includes assistance with behavior management and self-care for individual student(s), including toileting assistance, as necessary.
- Provide support to the teacher in managing whole group, small group and individual child learning in accordance with the curriculum and instructional goals of the program.
- Actively engage children in the learning experiences in the classroom under guidance from the Lead Teacher
- Assist teacher with instruction, assessment, and record-keeping.
- Actively participate in all regularly scheduled team meetings and professional development sessions.
- Assist with the nutrition services to children as assigned: including but not limited to the following: transporting meals to the classroom, storage of food and supplies, participation in family style dining, clean-up and sanitation, nutritional educational activities.
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
- Provide services to all children and families with respect, confidentiality and dignity.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teacher and school leadership to engage and support parents.
- Support and maintain positive partnerships within the school building.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Additional duties as required or assigned.
Professional Requirements:
- Fingerprint clearance in NYC DOE PETS system
- Proof of immunizations
- Current medical exam documented on form provided
- Background check clearance
- 3 letters of reference
- Excellent Attendance Record
- CPR and First Aid Certification a plus
- Completion of mandated reporter and health and safety online training will be required within 45 days of hiring.
Educational Requirements:
- Aides
- Minimum High School Diploma - AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Proof of highest level of education must be presented at time of application.
- Additional requirement for Teacher Assistant status:
- At least one year of experience working with young children in a supervisory capacity
- Current NYS Teacher Assistant Certification
- NYS ASPIRE and TEACH Account
Salary : $17 - $19
