John Cardinal O'Connor School, a Catholic elementary school (grades 1-8) that serves children with special learning needs, is in need of a classroom teacher for immediate hire.
Our classes are typically 10-15 students in each and serve multiple grades depending on enrollment and instructional level. Classes have a full-time teaching assistant assigned. Small group instruction is our teaching style.
For reading, we use the philosophy of the Orton Gillingham model and the Preventing Academic Failure method.
For writing, we adopt the Hochman Method philosophy.
The majority of our students have IESPs. Related services of speech, counseling, OT and PT take place during the school day in our building for students who require them.
Our school is located in Irvington, NY and is part of the Archdiocese of New York Catholic Schools.
Requirements :
NYS Certification in Special Education (preferred)
Experience or training in Orton Gillingham / PAF or Hochman Writing (preferred)
Willing to discuss position with those with NYS certification in Education, experience teaching and / or in college / graduate school studying Education.
Salary range conforms with the provisions in the collective bargaining agreement, based on degree and years of
experience; salaries range from $53,900 - $75,300.
