POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) serves as principal advisor providing comprehensive and proactive communications, strategies and planning, media relations, advocacy and policy work, and news analysis as part of the Leadership Team. The CCO is responsible for all CSS communications. This means working collaboratively with the Leadership Team and other key stakeholders and setting the vision for and leading the Communications Team, including internal communications, media relations, social media, CSS external and internal websites, marketing, and strategic communications.
CSS has a culture of philanthropy, as such, the Chief Communications Officer works closely with the Chief Development Officer to ensure consistent messaging is being presented to donors, staff, and the community at large. This position requires a commitment to the values and guiding principles of dignity and respect for all people and a commitment to serving the vulnerable in our community.

The communications team has the great privilege of sharing the stories of our community and engaging our community partners. With a focus on ethical storytelling and community engagement, we share the perspectives and experiences of our neighbors and create opportunities for our neighbors to engage in programs and partner together to help those in need.

QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum Education Requirement : Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience Requirement : Five years of accomplished strategic communications experience of increasing scope required, preferably with some experience at a nonprofit or public agency or with a large, complex organization. Experience in leading and managing a team of communications professionals. Experience working proactively with media, establishing influential productive working relationships. Experience functioning successfully as a communications strategist and spokesperson in a politically charged environment. Direct experience working with nonprofit boards preferred. Proven experience as a leader in communicating with a diverse community.
Accreditation in Public Relations preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard indoor office environment. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time.
Travel out of Alaska is rare. Frequent travel within the Municipality of Anchorage is required. Occasional travel to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is required.
