POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Director is responsible for the operations of the Development team including overseeing annual giving and database management; managing fund development events; and stewarding a portfolio of individual, corporate and organizational donors and prospects to grow revenue. The Development Director will supervise other Development staff and also carry a portfolio of donors to solicit and steward. The Development Director reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM / DEPARTMENT
The Development team is responsible for raising funds from individual, corporate, and foundation donors to support the mission of our agency. The Development team works closely with the Communications team to engage supporters in the mission of Catholic Social Services through giving - whether the giving is financial, in-kind, or volunteer. We share stories with our supporters to demonstrate the needs (and the successes!) of our guests and clients and to appeal for support in helping people get the resources they need to move along a path to permanent stability.
The Development team interacts with all the programs of Catholic Social Services, including three emergency shelters, a food pantry, case managers, and the refugee program.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a team of fundraisers to accomplish annual goals.
Demonstrate best fundraising practices.
Develop a working knowledge of CSS in general and funding priorities specifically in order to articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents.
Participate in the planning and management of CSS’s signature fund development event, the Wilma Carr Charity Ball.
Assist in the planning, management, and fundraising for successful execution of other events as needed, including Plein Air, Marie’s Beauty Supply, and other donor and community events.
Steward a portfolio of donors : Manage acknowledgement, recognition, on-going communications, continued cultivation, and solicitation of a portfolio of past and current corporate and individual donors to enhance their relationship with CSS and increase the likelihood of continued contributions.
Work closely with the Development and Communications Departments to design and implement donor appreciation and cultivation events and activities.
Provide professional assistance and interaction with donors (via phone, computer and face-to-face).
Attend internal and external meetings and events as required.
Subscribe to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics.
Perform other duties as requested, delegated, or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education Requirement : Bachelor’s degree. Four (4) years of experience may be substituted for the required education.
Minimum Experience Requirement : Four (4) years of marketing, communications, development, and / or fundraising with at least two years of specific experience in event planning.
A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard indoor office environment. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time.
Flexibility is necessary to be available for occasional weekday, weekend and evening meetings, events, and deadlines.
Travel out of Alaska is rare. Occasional travel within Anchorage is required.
