What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant: Full or Part Time position at Cats Veterinary?
Cats Veterinary is seeking a motivated, energetic and positive veterinary assistant. Entry level candidates are encouraged to apply. Cats Veterinary is a privately owned feline-exclusive full service veterinary hospital. The veterinary assistant at Cats Veterinary is essential in aiding the licensed technicians in achieving greater efficiency. Veterinary assistants have a significant role in freeing up the licensed technicians to assist the veterinarian with medical procedures and advanced patient care.
Veterinary Assistant tasks include:
- Fostering a positive and constructive relationship with our veterinary team. Understanding and modeling the practice core values of exceptional customer service and patient care.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Being diligent and thorough in disinfecting.
- Assisting licensed technicians and veterinarians in restraint for procedures. We are a gold status AAFP Feline Friendly facility.
- Patient care including husbandry, basic grooming and administering prescribed medications. Candidate must also be able to read and understand patient medical charts. Veterinary assistants primarily care for boarding patients.
- Laboratory duties including preparing samples to be sent to the reference laboratory, running in-house bloodwork, preparing urine culture agar plates and preparing slides for cytology's.
- Radiology duties include knowledge of safe radiology protocols, setting up digital radiology and assisting in restrain for radiographs.
- Surgical duties include proper preparation of surgical suite and care of surgical packs and instruments. Occasionally a veterinary assistant will assist in surgery.
- Pharmacology duties include reading and understanding prescription labels, filling prescriptions under the supervision of LVT's and basic client education regarding commonly prescribed medications.
- Customer relations including client education, attaining patient histories for non-complicated veterinary visits and discharging surgical patients. Our communication style with our clients is friendly, informative and concise.
Schedule:
- Position is full time with approximately 36-40 hours per week.
- Saturday rotations are a requirement. Weekend treatment assignments and holiday rotations are required after training period is complete.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age. They must genuinely enjoy working with animals and people. They will approach his/her job in a mature manner and have excellent communication skills. They will be motivated to learn and maintain a positive demeanor. They must have reliable transportation.
