What we're looking for :

We are seeking a Communications Director to lead, and support the implementation of, the organization’s strategic communications activities. You will be responsible for developing and executing high-level strategies that promote the organization’s goals, engage key stakeholders, and amplify our mission. This role requires a strong leader who can manage internal and external relationships, oversee enterprise-wide communications initiatives, and who is comfortable moving between strategy and implementation.

What You'll Do :

Develop and lead the organization's communication strategy , ensuring alignment with our mission and objectives; clear objectives and KPI’s; and in line with budget requirements.

Manage / work alongside external agencies and consultants to identify and execute media and public visibility opportunities for the Foundation and its leadership; educate and engage key stakeholders (funders, policymakers, industry and community supporters); and ensure messaging is consistent in tone and position.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that communication strategies support programmatic and philanthropic goals, while positioning the organization as a viable, trusted partner.

Develop and lead the organization’s content and storytelling plans to advance programmatic and policy-related goals.This includes developing presentations, writing speeches, backgrounders / factsheets and annual reports; and, creating content / stories for the organization’s website, social media channels and email outreach activities.

Serve as the primary liaison to external stakeholders , including government agencies and nonprofit partners, to ensure cohesive and strategic messaging.

Support the organization’s public visibility campaign , work with the Brand Advisor to effectively execute campaign strategies and brand partner activations to increase awareness and build affinity for the BLM and Foundation.

Support cross-functional needs to share the team’s workload , stepping in to support content creation, writing, and other tactical tasks as needed.

Requirements

What you'll bring :

7-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, or strategic marketing, with proven expertise in developing and implementing communication strategies.

3-5 years of experience in staff management and training.

Strong background in agency management and external stakeholder communication, particularly in B2B or B2G contexts.

Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple high-level projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.

Superior writing, editing, and messaging abilities, particularly in crafting content for diverse audiences.

Ability to think strategically and drive results, with a self-starter mentality and minimal need for direct oversight.

Experience using project management tools and working within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Versatility and willingness to balance high-level strategy with day-to-day content execution, adapting to evolving organizational needs with ease.

Experience working with or for a non-profit or foundation, a plus.

Experience building, managing and tracking departmental budgets, a plus.

  • Compensation : $120,000 to $140,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits : Group medical / vision / dental benefits with 100% employer contribution for employees and 75% contribution for dependents; life insurance; 401k retirement savings plan; and generous holiday and paid time off policies.
  • Travel : 25%
