POSITION OVERVIEW:
CAUSE is currently seeking a CWOP Organizer to oversee the implementation of a state grant dedicated to worker outreach in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. CWOP, the California Worker Outreach Program has granted CAUSE funds to reach out and provide workers’ right information to over 3,800 workers, primarily those working in agriculture in the cities of Oxnard and Santa Maria. This position is full time, year round and will be based in Oxnard or Santa Maria. The CAUSE CWOP Organizer will be responsible for overseeing a six-person promotor teams for a 12 week program in either Oxnard or Santa Maria. The paid team of promotores will conduct peer outreach to farmworkers regarding their labor and immigrant rights via canvassing, phonebanking, tabling and workshops. In addition to overseeing the 12 week program, the CWOP Organizer will also do year-round outreach education for workers. The CAUSE CWOP manager will report to CAUSE’s CWOP Manager, and will work closely with CAUSE’s Organizing Team to meet their goals.
The CAUSE CWOP Organizer responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Directly supervising CAUSE’ team of 6 CWOP Promotores, providing coaching, work planning, feedback, and accountability to their supervisees and taking responsibility for their successful development and performance
- Training Promotores in community outreach, writing raps, phonebanking, canvassing, recruitment and labor and immigrant rights
- Coordinating with the CAUSE Organizing Team to identify ideal outreach locations, craft messaging to be relevant and informative and to integrate outreach contacts into CAUSE’s membership base
- Conducting house-meeting campaigns including personal visits to recruit immigrant adult Spanish-speakers to become grassroots community leaders involved with CAUSE
- Promoting information to the community through WhatsApp, Facebook live videos, and Spanish-language radio
- Planning, reviewing, and editing language, content, and graphic design of Policy Advocates’ public communications including yers, informational videos, know your rights brochures etc.
- Representing the organization in statewide CWOP meetings, bringing new information and directives to the CAUSE team
- Reporting CAUSE CWOP progress on deliverables the statewide CORD system
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required
- Fluency in Spanish required
- 1 year of supervision experience, can include temporary/part-time sta, interns
- 1 year experience in community organizing or outreach
- Strong writing and public speaking skills
- Knowledge of Central Coast region and experience working with immigrant communities
- Experience with and desire to work with diverse cultures and the ability to engage people from a variety of backgrounds
- Ability to interact professionally with ally organizations and state agency sta
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to set own work priorities, manage responsibilities and time
- Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends, and be able to travel throughout the region

WORK SCHEDULE
This position has flexible hours and will include evening and weekend work. CAUSE provides flexible paid time off and holidays.
COMPENSATION
Starting pay for this full-time hourly position is $27/hour (estimated $56,160 annual). Benefits include 100% paid medical and dental coverage including dependents, paid sick and mental health days, holidays and flexible paid vacation days, paid family leave, monthly stipend for use of cellphone and travel, and annual professional development budget. CAUSE also typically provides two weeks of paid annual holiday shutdown and an annual retirement contribution. Funding for this position is for two years, contingent on ability to meet year one goals.
To ensure pay equity across our team, salaries at CAUSE follow a formula based on position and tenure and are non-negotiable for individual candidates. However, we have a salary scale providing additional pay for candidates with years of relevant job experience significantly beyond the minimum qualifications listed in this job description.
