Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Computer Systems Security Specialist to support IT security operations, risk management, and network defense. This role requires expertise in analyzing security risks, implementing protective measures, and overseeing security frameworks to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Computer Systems Security Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Analyzing IT specifications to assess security risks and vulnerabilities.
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading security software to enhance protection.
- Securing networks using firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)/Intrusion Detection, password protection, Access Control Lists (ACLs), VLANs, and industry-standard network hardening techniques.
- Implementing secure frameworks and risk management methodologies, including patch management, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and responding to information assurance vulnerability alerts and bulletins.
- Designing and implementing safety measures and data recovery plans.
- Acting on privacy breaches and malware threats to safeguard systems and data.
- Serving as a security expert by training personnel and drafting policies and guidelines to maintain compliance.
- Managing system administration or security roles, including TCP/IP, firewall management, and endpoint security maintenance.
- Supervising junior personnel to ensure adherence to cybersecurity protocols.
- Utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to support cybersecurity operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess or be eligible for a security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
- IAT III certification required (CISSP or equivalent).
Experience:
At least seven years of experience in:
- Assessing security risks based on IT specifications.
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading security software.
- Securing networks through firewalls, IPS/Intrusion Detection, password protection, ACLs, VLANs, and other hardening techniques.
- Implementing secure frameworks and risk management methodologies, including patch management, STIGs, and vulnerability alerts.
At least five years of experience in:
- Designing and implementing data protection and recovery plans.
- Responding to privacy breaches and malware threats.
- Conducting security training and serving as a cybersecurity expert.
- Drafting policies and security guidelines.
At least two years of experience in:
- System administration or security roles.
- Networking and system administration (e.g., TCP/IP, firewalls).
- Firewall and endpoint security system maintenance and functionality.
- At least one year of experience supervising junior personnel.
Alternative Qualification Path:
If you do not meet the education requirement, you may qualify with:
- At least 11 years of professional technical experience in Information Technology.
- Of these 11 years:
- At least seven years must demonstrate experience in security risk assessment, network security, and risk management.
- At least five years must demonstrate experience in data protection, threat response, security training, and policy development.
- At least two years must demonstrate experience in system administration, networking, and firewall/endpoint security maintenance.
Comprehensive Compensation & Benefits Package:
Salary at CaVU is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, education, training, certificates, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract- specific affordability and organizational requirements. The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 - $165,000.00. To drive fair pay practices for employees, CaVU conducts regular comparisons across our employee groups and the industry. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, CaVU considers a number of factors when determining salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
