The Assistant Vice President of Finance (AVP) will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health and integrity of our healthcare system. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the AVP will oversee the system-wide Controllers and be responsible for the accurate production and integrity of financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, cost reports, IRS Form 990 filings, and budgeting processes. This position will also work closely with other senior leaders to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's objectives and support its mission to provide high-quality healthcare services.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight:

  • Directly oversee and provide leadership to the system Controllers, ensuring high levels of performance, professional development, and operational efficiency across all entities within the healthcare system.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other relevant standards.

Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation, review, and integrity of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the timely completion and accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations and related financial analyses.
  • Coordinate variance analyses and assist CFO with presentation materials for Finance committee and board meetings.

Cost Reporting & Compliance:

  • Manage the preparation and filing of cost reports in collaboration with FP&A Director, to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of IRS Form 990 for the organizations, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Lead the preparation and execution of the annual operating and capital budget process, working closely with the FP&A Director as well as senior leadership to align financial goals with operational and strategic priorities.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on financial forecasts, ensuring that the organization remains on track to meet its financial objectives.

Internal Controls & Financial Integrity:

  • Ensure the development and implementation of robust internal controls to safeguard the organization's financial assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Actively monitor and address any risks related to financial operations and reporting.

Collaboration & Strategic Input:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership across the organization to provide financial insights and recommendations that support the system's long-term goals.
  • Partner with the CFO to monitor and improve the financial performance of the organization, including identifying areas for cost savings and process improvements.

Regulatory Compliance & Audits:

  • Serve as the point of contact for external audits, ensuring that financial statements and supporting documentation are accurate and compliant with auditing standards.
  • Ensure the timely submission of all regulatory filings and reports, including financial statements and tax filings

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required)
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience within a healthcare system or similar complex organization.
  • Strong background in managing financial reporting, budget preparation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of finance professionals, with a demonstrated ability to drive performance and professional development.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, cost accounting, and tax laws specific to healthcare organizations..
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including compliance requirements for 990 filings, cost reporting, and Medicare/Medicaid billing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of integrity, professionalism, and ethical behavior.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • CPA or Master's Degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in financial management systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with healthcare-specific financial software (e.g., Epic, Lawson, or similar systems) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.

Location and Travel Requirements:

  • Hybrid / Onsite
  • Onsite, CMC Main Campus with travel required between healthcare system locations
  • Some travel may be required between healthcare system locations.
    • [40}% Travel can be expected in this role

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • $200,000 to $230,000 per year

Salary : $200,000 - $230,000
