A Lead Medical Technologist is a highly skilled health professional who performs all the duties of a Medical Technologist with additional technical responsibilities, personnel management and regulatory oversight.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Analyze and test specimens, including proficiency testing and manual procedures, and report appropriately according to protocol. Assigns proficiency test samples, ensuring all staff participate and demonstrate acceptable results. Investigates results that are not in acceptable limits.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot complex equipment
• Acts as technologist in charge when supervisor or manager is not available. Assigns daily benches if needed and provides day to day supervision and monitoring of moderate and high complexity testing. Assists with training/competency of employees.
• Utilize complex information systems; collect and interpret data. Performs instrument validation/methods verification for new tests/platforms and write or revises procedures as needed.
• Perform and interpret quality control, and monitors quality control and instrument functions. Takes corrective action as needed and validates new lot and controls, submits peer data.
• Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, and infection control and safety guidelines. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental workflow by cooperating with others. Hears and helps to resolve complaints from staff and providers.
• Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Scientist
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (or equivalent) and Registered as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
• Prior laboratory experience

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Four years of laboratory experience is preferred, but not required.
• Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
• Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.
• Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, may be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Repetitive use of hands (eg. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary;
• Must be able physically to operate automation used in the job.

Compensation Disclosure:

$35.75 to $49.50 per hour
