Patient Service Representative - Cayuga Heart Institute

Patient Services Representative is a unique position that varies daily based on the clinical or clerical staffing needs of the practice. Duties often include supporting the physicians and/or mid-level providers in the practice with clinical activities and direct patient care as well as assisting patients and staff with the administrative and clerical needs of the practice.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Performs clinical duties in accordance with the scope of training and in accordance with NYS laws and regulations.
- Carries out all assigned clinical procedures for the comfort and well-being of patients, per practice protocol.
- Takes and records patient's vital signs.
- Prepares exam rooms and sterilizes equipment and supplies per protocols.
- Assists physicians/providers with procedures, patient care and/or scheduling.
- Provides call management for physicians/providers with regard to clinical questions, and other patient calls per practice protocols.
- Prepares patient's record for visit, as directed by physician/provider.
- Participates in scheduled team meetings to discuss /clarify roles, responsibility, processes, and patient issues
- Participates in quality improvement activities and committees, as requested.
- Check in patients upon arrival.
- Verify/Update patient demographics.
- Scan insurance cards.
- Obtain signatures on required forms (HIPAA, etc.).
- Update status in Medent (arrived, waiting, etc.).
- Collect outstanding balances and co-pays.
- Assist with additional scheduling such as labs, x-rays, procedures or testing; send orders.
- Take messages or triage phone calls.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Mail new patient questionnaire.
- Print schedules for the next day.
- Appointment confirmation calls in some offices.
- Check out patient and print CVS.
- Responsible for daily cash out and bank deposit.
- Answer/direct incoming phone calls; triage as appropriate.
- Make appointments over the phone with appropriate provider.
- Place new and returning patients in provider schedule according to office protocols/provider template.
- Send email to patients with regard to patient portal.
- Records releases.
- Monitor fax tank and scan records.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in customer service
- Good time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent customer service and problem solving ability
- Ability to think through potential solutions to issues
- Good time management and prioritization skills
- Good computer skills - Medent and Microsoft Office are utilized
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Onsite
- Position will be located at Community Corners 905 Hanshaw Rd Suite A.
- Shift: M-F 8am-4:30pm
Physical requirements:
- Standing-- 70%
- Sitting-- 30%

- Bending-- 50%
- Lifting - must be able to lift 40 lb.
Pay Scale Disclosure:
- $15.00 to $23.00 per hour
