Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and compliance of the wastewater treatment facility. This role ensures the effective treatment of wastewater to meet all regulatory and environmental standards before discharge. The manager will be responsible for staff supervision, vendor coordination, equipment maintenance, and regulatory reporting. Additionally, the role includes managing exterior programs such as stormwater compliance and groundskeeping.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Operations Management:
- Serve as the Chief Operator & Subject Matter Expert of the wastewater treatment facility.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local wastewater regulations.
- Maintain and update all required permits, including land application permits.
- Monitor and document plant operations using systems, instrumentation readings, and laboratory test results.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to ensure the proper operation of all equipment, including pumps, valves, and motors.
- Manage wastewater discharge, sludge hauling, and chemical procurement programs.
- Document and report all non-compliance incidents to management and regulatory agencies.
Staff Management & Training:
- Supervise wastewater treatment personnel, ensuring proper training in current treatment technologies and safety procedures.
- Develop objectives, standard operating procedures, and performance standards for wastewater operations.
- Schedule and coordinate staff shifts to ensure adequate coverage and efficiency.
- Conduct training sessions on wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and safety compliance.
Maintenance & Equipment Oversight:
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to address necessary repairs and schedule work orders.
- Oversee third-party vendors for lift stations, drain maintenance, and infrastructure repairs.
- Ensure monthly and annual equipment maintenance is completed and properly documented.
- Perform troubleshooting and basic maintenance on wastewater treatment systems.
- Develop and manage the facility’s capital equipment requirements and oversee installation projects in coordination with plant engineering.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Maintain wastewater treatment records and prepare reports for regulatory compliance.
- Perform laboratory testing and analyses.
- Utilize software applications for operational efficiency.
- Prepare and present wastewater reports for the Safety & Environment Manager.
- Research historical data for process improvements and reporting requirements.
Environmental & Facility Management:
- Oversee stormwater management, site security, and outdoor maintenance programs (mowing, seeding, snow removal).
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including the use of protective equipment such as fall protection harnesses, gas monitors, and respirators.
- Lead safety initiatives, conduct inspections, and track environmental risks and hazards.
- Assist in groundskeeping and snow removal when necessary.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the WWTP budget, including procurement of chemicals, sludge removal, sewer discharge monitoring, and operational supplies.
- Optimize wastewater treatment efficiency by managing equipment, labor, and overhead costs.
- Identify and propose cost-effective technical and organizational improvements.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of wastewater treatment experience in a Class Four facility or equivalent industrial setting.
- Supervisory and management experience in wastewater treatment operations.
- Knowledge of land application permits, sludge handling, and discharge permit regulations.
- Experience with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, MS Project, Visio, and CMMS tracking systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze technical documents and regulatory requirements.
- This position requires strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills to coordinate with production, quality, engineering, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment, including exposure to chemicals, wastewater, and outdoor elements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, warehouse areas, and the exterior perimeter.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties.
- Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks.
- Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed.
- Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.

Work Schedule:
- Standard Monday-Friday (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM) schedule, with flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
