Position Title : Director of Automation and Information Engineering

Reports To : COO

FLSA Status : Salaried

Job Grade : 14

Pay Range : $152,000-$195,000

Position Overview :

The director of Automation and Information Engineer (A / I engineer) leads the Automation guidelines and information workflow for the company; from hiring and training new team members, managing tech workflow and information from shop flow to the business side, Real time information to manage the plant performance, and other shop floor data translation that creates value to the organization. The director of A / I engineers will have a strategic and technical role inside the company. The A / I Engineer will report directly to the COO with direct interaction with CFO and financial teams.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Setting goals for the team, hiring engineers and prioritizing projects. The technical aspect is getting actively involved in plant operational support.
  • Manage critical vendors for in the management of shop floor data collection and integration of our supervisory architecture
  • Data and report developing to enhance operational performance to include, but not limited to shrinkage, KPI performance, Wastewater, Utility loading, quality and water usage.
  • Design and implement automated systems to streamline our processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages, hardware operations, and automation technology.
  • Experience with robotic automation systems, control systems, and data acquisition systems
  • Create and maintain high-quality, efficient automated systems that align with our company's needs and goals.
  • Assist in developing real-time performance tools to better enhance operational performance while working to integrate this data into our business systems
  • Ability to work with the financial and business arms of the company to create real-time business updates for our business systems
  • Design, program, simulate and test automated machinery and processes.
  • Identify opportunities for automation within software processes.
  • Assist in Installing, documenting, maintaining, and repairing automation equipment and systems.
  • Develop and implement efficient automated systems.
  • Train staff on automation systems operation and procedures.
  • Continuing to develop with the most current technologies and trends in automation systems, including but not limited to web-based interaction, remote management for employees and developing enhancements to the company's supervisory control systems
  • Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot automation system problems.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the development process.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures.
  • Ability to support operations during critical downtime events
  • Ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.

Essential Knowledge / Skills :

  • Experience with programming languages and data mapping
  • Understanding of automation technologies, control systems, and PLC.
  • Knowledge of robotic automation systems, hardware operations, and industrial automation software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to project manage and work within a team.
  • Strong understanding of safety and data handling procedures.
  • Education / Experience :

    BSc degree in Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

    Minimum of 10 years in the automation / information industry

    Environmental Considerations :

  • Must be able to work in environments with varying temperatures.
  • Potential exposure to ingredients used in food manufacturing, including allergens.
  • May encounter chemicals commonly used in food processing and distribution facilities.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, warehouse areas, and the exterior perimeter.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks.
  • Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed.
  • Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform job duties accurately.
  • Capable of assessing weights, judging distances, and working at various heights.
  • Work Schedule :

  • Plant Operations run 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
  • Typical Workdays are Monday thru Friday, Occasional Weekends
  • On Call as needed by Engineering and Operations Team for out of the ordinary events.
  • Hybrid work arrangement available.
