Position Overview:
CBC Site Development is seeking a highly skilled Lead Pipe Excavator Operator to take charge of field operations on utility installation projects. This role is ideal for an experienced equipment operator with a strong background in deep utility work (water, sanitary sewer, storm drain) who also has leadership experience or is ready to step into a leadership role.
You’ll be responsible for running a pipe crew, operating heavy equipment with precision, and ensuring projects stay on track, safe, and up to CBC’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily excavation activities for the pipe team.
- Safely and skillfully operate excavators and other heavy machinery (dozers, loaders, skid steers, etc.)
- Oversee the installation of water, sewer, and storm drain systems, including deep excavations and complex utility crossings.
- Ensure work is completed to specified grades.
- Maintain safe trenching practices in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Communicate clearly with Foremen, Project Managers, and Pipe Layers.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and ensure machinery is job-ready.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven ability to read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and pipe layouts.
- Strong understanding of backfilling techniques and bedding requirements.
- Experience holding grade “by eye” and using laser levels or GPS as needed.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Reliable transportation and consistent work ethic.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various outdoor conditions.

- Monday to Friday (Day shift) Occasional weekend and overtime work as needed
