The Position
The Chief Financial Officer will have responsibility for the strategic oversight of the company’s financial position, provide supervision over all aspects of the company's financial reporting (both internal and external), act as a key partner to the CEO, and play an integral role in the evaluation, execution and integration of add-on acquisitions in the U.S. and Europe. The CFO will work closely with the company's CEO, leadership team, and private equity partners to help build and manage their financial infrastructure and capabilities to ensure the business can effectively scale as it continues to grow organically and through acquisitions.
As a member of the executive team, the CFO will function as a “player/coach” using a “roll up your sleeves” approach. The CFO will flex from executive-level matters including Board and lender interaction to hands-on activities such as overseeing daily tracking of performance, KPI development and analysis, annual budget preparation, monthly performance measurement against budget and prior year, and financial modeling and forecasting.
He/she will be a key liaison with the Board and the company's lenders and be accountable for the consistent, accurate and prompt reporting of the company’s monthly and annual operating results. He/she must have a detailed understanding of financial and operating details, metrics and the levers that drive profitability. The CFO candidate must be a strong communicator and effective working through others on his/her team as well as with peers, the CEO and the PE fund.
This position will be based in Brookyln, NY.
Responsibilities:
Department Leadership
- Further develop a financially-oriented, metrics-driven culture throughout the organization in order to improve fact-based decision-making and financial visibility.
- Provide financial insights and analytical support to operating management, the Board and the company's lenders, including monthly, quarterly and annual performance analyses and written / verbal insights.
- Upgrade existing systems and processes to effectively utilize appropriate technology and increase department automation where possible.
- Lead the finance team through the company’s ongoing ERP implementation and help ensure a smooth transition that streamlines processes and increases operational and financial transparency.
- Manage direct reports to ensure proactive, strong performance overall and control in the areas of accounts receivable and payable.
- Effectively work cross-functionally with other leaders and colleagues throughout the company.
- Partner closely with the PE fund and manage a variety of third parties, including auditors, lenders and legal counsel.
- Play a lead role in driving the performance, strategic planning and growth of the business.
- Participate in diligence and execution of prospective acquisitions and implement integration efficiencies from closed acquisitions.
Accounting and Finance
- Provide key leadership in corporate and operational financial functions including financial and operational control; financial systems management; planning, forecasting and analysis; financial reporting; working capital management; cash flow; treasury; audit; federal / state / local taxes; as well as supporting corporate development activities, including acquisition accounting.
- Drive effective liquidity and working capital management, receivables collections and managing vendor payment/terms.
- Provide enhanced business information reporting, which will enable management to drive profitable growth.
- Lead a business planning process including annual and rolling operating / capital / three-statement budgets.
- Conduct return on investment analyses for growth projects, including facilities build-outs, equipment purchasing, geographic expansion, and new product development.
- Work closely with the outside audit firm and tax advisors to coordinate the timely completion of the annual financial statement audit and all tax and reporting compliance, including sales and use tax, state and federal income tax, property tax, 1099s, etc.
- In collaboration with the PE fund, manage banking relationships, monitor credit agreement compliance / covenants and provide appropriate bank reporting.
Corporate responsibilities
- Collaborate with CEO and Board of Directors to develop and define strategic business direction.
- Work closely with direct reports to mentor and develop staff. Provide day to day leadership, direction and motivation.
- Oversee capital spending, ensuring projects generate appropriate ROIs.
- Review key customer, vendor and other business contracts to represent the company's interests and protect the business.
The Candidate:
The successful candidate will have a verifiable track record of achievement leading a finance function in a production/cost accounting environment with a proven ability to effectively partner with all aspects of the business. S/he will have 10 to 15 years’ experience of hands-on experience in finance, with at least five of those years as a senior financial executive (CFO) and will be known for creating a culture of performance that exceeds expectations. This individual will be a self-motivated leader of both people and projects, who is a magnet for, and developer of talent. S/he will have a clear track record of helping line leaders understand and improve their cost structures, manage their business through clear and powerful key performance indicators, and thereby increase their profitability.

Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as a successful finance leader in a fast-paced Manufacturing company, or a Digital Solutions/Printing company with prior experience in a production/cost accounting environment.
• An undergraduate degree with a major in Finance or Accounting is preferred. Additionally, an MBA and/or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), while not essential, would be favorably viewed.
• Experience working in a business-to-business production-oriented company and a detailed understanding of production / manufacturing cost accounting.
• Experience in a financial leadership role with a private equity-backed company. Ability to understand the importance of creating value, driving cash flow and EBITDA.
• Experience as a stand-alone CFO with full P&L and balance sheet ownership in an organization of relevant size and complexity.
• Familiarity with project-driven sales and comfort with operationally focused leadership teams.
• Proven experience implementing and utilizing ERP systems and streamlining information technology and processes to create a unified approach to managing data and analytics, enabling greater transparency and driving operational efficiency.
• Comfort with establishing and reinforcing appropriate level of processes in finance, accounting, and throughout the organization.
• Experience identifying and analyzing proposed add-on acquisitions, mergers and other corporate transactions, key contracts and business plans to advance the company’s goals and strategies, including acquisitions and financial support of sales activities and strategic initiatives.
