The Portfolio Accountant is responsible for all property accounting related activities for a given portfolio of shopping center properties, ensuring month end close and monthly reporting packages are completed according to schedule. Additionally, the Portfolio Accountant - I will be directly involved in providing customer support to property management teams and other CBL departments, all within a collaborative work environment.

The Portfolio Accountant is responsible for all property accounting related activities for a given portfolio of shopping center properties, ensuring month end close and monthly reporting packages are completed according to schedule. Additionally, the Portfolio Accountant - I will be directly involved in providing customer support to property management teams and other CBL departments, all within a collaborative work environment.
Principal Responsibilities
The potential candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Conduct all month end closing activities for a given portfolio of properties
- Prepare and sign-off on financial statements
- Assist property management teams with investigating variances related to both actual and budgeted results
- Assist property management teams with inquiries related to accounting transactions and the appropriate accounting for such transactions
- Prepare and submit required lender reporting for given set of properties
- Prepare and file personal property and sales and use taxes, and other required financial and regulatory reporting
- Process straight line rent calculations
- Review capital expenditures to ensure appropriate accounting treatment
- Process mortgage escrow reimbursement requests with lenders for required capital expenditures and tenant improvements
- Review and complete bank reconciliations
- Assist in maintaining Yardi Voyager property management and accounting system specific to portfolio accounting.
- Assist the Portfolio Controller in portfolio-wide financial and reporting analyses
- May be required to provide coverage for other Portfolio Accountants and AP Analysts during times they are required to be out of the office or are unavailable.
- College graduate with a degree in accounting, or a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a business-related discipline with two years related commercial real estate property accounting or similar experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, write, interpret and analyze documents such as invoices, contracts, and procedures manuals.
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to speak effectively with various team members both within CBL and externally.
- Good analytical skills to analyze portfolio and property level financial information and reports.
- The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics: attention to detail, team player, strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, goal oriented and a self-starter.
- Proficient in Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Yardi Voyager commercial property management and accounting system or a similar system is a plus.
