Baker/ Pastry Assistant

CC Young, a vibrant senior living community and a non-profit leader in senior living and Health Care is seeking a Baker/Pastry Assistant to work closely with the head baker or pastry chef, this role involves assisting in the preparation, baking, and decoration of a variety of sweet and savory items. The ideal candidate should have a passion for baking, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The role of a Baker/Pastry Assistant is dynamic, rewarding, and essential to the success of a bakery or pastry shop. It requires a combination of technical skills, creativity, and a passion for delivering high-quality baked goods to customers. As an integral part of the team, the Baker/Pastry Assistant contributes to a welcoming atmosphere and helps uphold the reputation of the establishment.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

- Preparation of Ingredients

• Measure and weigh ingredients according to recipes.
• Prepare doughs, batters, and fillings for various baked goods and pastries.
• Assist in the preparation of icing, glazes, and toppings.

- Baking and Cooking:

• Operate baking equipment such as ovens, mixers, and proofing cabinets.
• Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure quality and consistency.
• Assist in the baking of bread, cakes, cookies, pies, pastries, and other specialty items.

- Decoration and Finishing:

• Assist with the decoration of cakes, cupcakes, and pastries.
• Apply glazes, frostings, and fillings to finished products.
• Create and decorate specialty items for holidays and events.

- Cleaning and Maintenance:

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, equipment, and tools.
• Follow proper sanitation and food safety guidelines.
• Assist in inventory management, including stock rotation and storage.

- Assistance in Menu Development:

• Collaborate with the head baker or pastry chef in developing new recipes.
• Offer creative input for seasonal and special menu items.
• Stay updated on industry trends and techniques.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Culinary or baking/pastry arts degree/certification is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience in a bakery or pastry kitchen is preferred.
• Knowledge of baking techniques, methods, and equipment.
• Familiarity with a variety of baked goods, pastries, and desserts.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Creative flair and passion for creating delicious and visually appealing products.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Lift and carry heavy trays, bags of flour, and other supplies.
• Work in a hot and humid environment near ovens and other baking equipment.
• Dexterity for handling delicate decorations and intricate tasks.
