AGENCY OVERVIEW
CCAR Industries is a nonprofit organization that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities in East Central Illinois. Our Residential Program operates eight, adult group homes in Charleston. Approximately two to six adult residents live in each home. Our staff provide support to these individuals on a 24/7 basis.
SCHEDULE
This is a permanent, full-time position on Tuesday - Saturday from Noon - 9 pm with rotating on-call responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must pass a criminal background check, as required by the Healthcare Worker Background Check Act (225 ILCS 46), in addition to an IL DCFS background check
- Minimum of GED or high school diploma
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- At least two years as a Direct Support Person or possess comparable experience in the I/DD field
- Previous supervisory, teaching, or training experience is preferred
WAGES
$20.25 per hour

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Training Mentor will assist Direct Support Personnel (DSPs) in our Residential Program as they develop their skills. The Training Mentor will provide guidance during the first six months of the DSPs' employment with additional training on an as needed basis. This position will work closely with other program staff to coordinate training and mentoring opportunities.
Initial Mentoring
- Provide an initial orientation to the DHS-DDD mandated DSP training curriculum and schedule OJT assignments
- Collaborate with the Residential team to provide on-the-job training within the group homes
- Develop a rapport with the new employees through contacts such as worksite visits
- Observe new employee performance and review documentation
On-Going Mentoring
- Respond to DSP requests for additional training and support
- Aid DSPs in problem-solving ways to meet work expectations to maintain employment
- Schedule and/or provide training based upon identified needs from quality assurance processes
- Assist the Scheduling/Training Coordinator with scheduling DSPs for training
- Work as part of the Residential team to facilitate the immersion of new DSPs into the agency culture
Improving Quality of the Training Experience
- Obtain input from DSPs regarding the relevancy of current DSP training and how the training can be modified to better meet their needs
- Provide training resources that are relevant to the changing needs of individuals
Program Responsibilities and Duties
- May be assigned to fill a shift working as a DSP in the homes as needed or to occasionally assist in scheduling staff
- Carry the on-call cell phone for the Program in a rotation with other program staff, staying within the Charleston-Mattoon area when on-call
