Aquatics Director
POSITION SCOPE:
The Aquatics Director oversees all aspects of CCBA’s American Red Cross Safety and Education program, including the planning, development, and promotion of aquatics classes and events. This role oversees managing the pool, hot tub, and cold plunge, ensuring water chemistry and safety standards are met, and leading a team of lifeguards and instructors. The Aquatics Director will also be responsible for fiscal management and coordination of pool schedules to ensure smooth operations and maximum program efficiency. The Aquatics Director is part of the First Aid Team.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of aquatics experience required, of which one (1) year must be supervisory or administrative in nature. Must be currently certified as a Lifeguard and a Water Safety Instructor. Should have training or experience in maintaining pool water chemistry. Within twelve (12) months of hire, become certified as a Lifeguard Instructor and a Certified Pool Operator. Within eighteen (18) months become certified as a Water Safety Instructor Trainer.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS:
· Program Development & Management: Works with the Program Team designing and continually improving engaging aquatics programs, classes, and events.
· Budgeting & Fiscal Oversight: Develop and manage the annual operating budget, ensuring cost-efficiency of all Red Cross lifeguard and aquatic classes.
· Pool & Facility Maintenance: Oversee pool maintenance, including chemical balance, filtration systems, and water quality, in compliance with state and local health codes. Assist with facility repairs and maintenance as needed.
· Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and legal standards (OSHA, state, and local regulations). Conduct regular inspections of the pool area, equipment, and safety equipment to ensure everything is in working order.
· Staff Training & Development: Hire, train, orient and supervise lifeguards and instructors. Lead in-service training sessions, certifications, and re-certifications for all aquatic staff, including CPR/AED/First Aid. Ensure the natatorium is staffed at all times it is open.
· Program Promotion & Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule pool events and classes. Promote the Red Cross Training and other aquatics programs to maximize participation and revenue.
· Staff Support: Provide ongoing coaching, feedback and support to aquatic staff to foster a positive and safe working environment.
· Emergency Response: Maintain stocked first-aid kits and ensure AEDs are current. Be ready to act in case of an emergency.
· Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
ABILITY TO:
- Ability to teach swim lessons.
- Ability to perform lifeguard duties: react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
- Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry items (up to 50 lbs) and be able to communicate verbally with good voice projection
- Work and/or find coverage for a blend of days, nights, weekends and some holidays.
· Assists in managing responses to first aid emergencies and is a First Aid Team member, as described in the "CCBA EXPOSURE CONTROL PLAN."
