Schedule:

  • Monday Wednesday Thursday: 11:00am - 7:00pm
  • Tuesday & Friday: 9:00am - 5:00pm

 

Compensation:

  • SUDS Counselor R (CADC-R): $23.45 - $30.37/hour
  • SUDS Counselor I (CADC-I): $25.76 - $33.49/hour
  • SUDS Counselor II (CADC-II): $28.40 - $36.92/hour

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)

*Note: For formal consideration for the SUDS Counselor position at Puentes, please ensure your professional/working experience meets the following requirements:  

  • Required: High School Diploma (or GED equivalent).
  • Required: Must have experience working with the Latino culture.
  • Required: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Required: Must be registered with MHACBO as a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). Requirements for the following CADC leveling:
    • SUDS Counselor R requires CADC-R
    • SUDS Counselor I requires CADC-I
    • SUDS Counselor II requires CADC-II

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (NOT REQUIRED)

  1. A combination of at least 2 (two) year's work, education, training or experience specializing in chemical dependency and mental health treatment.
  2. Registered with MHACBO as a Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM).
  3. Registered with MHACBO as QMHA.

     

    SUMMARY:   The SUDS Counselor under this position works as a member of the Puentes treatment team to provide culturally and linguistically-appropriate services to Latino adults with substance abuse issues.

    • The SUDS Counselor R works as a member of a treatment team providing substance abuse treatment and case management under direct supervision. 
    • The SUDS Counselor I works as a member of a treatment team providing substance abuse treatment and case management under general supervision. Performs work under general supervision and the incumbent is expected to become able to independently perform the full range of duties. 
    • The SUDS Counselor II works as a member of a treatment team providing substance abuse treatment, case management, and may provide functional supervision to lower levels.  

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Participate in culturally specific outreach efforts to engage prospective clients.
    2. Assist with screenings and intakes and with completing enrollment paperwork.
    3. Complete alcohol and drug assessments and develop culturally appropriate, strengths-based individual service and support plans (ISSP) with clients.
    4. Maintain a caseload of clients and serve as their primary counselor from admission to discharge.
    5. Meet with each client at least once per month for individual counseling and case management.
    6. Provide group counseling on a weekly basis, focusing on several aspects of the disease of addiction, stages of change and recovery.
    7. Introduce clients to appropriate self-help support and other supportive services/activities.
    8. Collaborate and coordinate services with treatment team, community providers, and support networks to address the needs of clients.
    9. Maintain client records as required by the program, county, state and funding source.
    10. Attend clinical staff meeting and case conferences in order to facilitate individual treatment plans for clients.
    11. Advocate and provide referral services to assure that Latino community members get access to a variety of services and benefits, including mental health services.
    12. Work within scope of training and experience. Seek consultation when appropriate.
    13. Attend all mandatory CCC trainings in a timely manner.
    14. Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and

    security.  Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners' and outside providers' patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access. This includes immediately reporting any breach of protected health information or personal identification information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider to the CCC Compliance Department, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.

    DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge of resources in the Latino community.
    2. Participate in training opportunities to advance skills and knowledge in addiction and mental health.
    3. Administer urinary drug analysis.
    4. When applicable, perform duties pursuant to specialized DUII/DCJ system requirements.
    5. Perform other duties as assigned.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in assessment and counseling techniques with individuals and groups.
    2. Knowledge and skills in chemical dependency treatment methods.
    3. Demonstrate ability to utilize culturally appropriate treatment interventions.
    4. Ability to work effectively with individual clients and groups.
    5. Ability to work as a team member and collaborate with professionals from other disciplines.
    6. Ability to learn new skills and apply knowledge to different situations.
    7. Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude.
    8. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
    9. Ability to work in an environment where people may be hostile or abusive.
    10. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
    11. Ability to work courteously and effectively communicate with the general public, clients, medical personnel, corrections personnel, police, and co-workers.
    12. Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
    13. Knowledge of de-escalation methods or ability to be trained in de-escalation methods.
