TRUMAN COLLEGE

 

Harry S. Truman College is seeking an Education Workforce Center (EWC) Specialist to join our team. Harry S. Truman College serves as the Center of Excellence for degree and certificate programs in the focus area of Education, including early childhood, child development, and grades K-12. 

 

Funded by a McCormick Foundation grant and housed at the Truman campus with a satellite at Daley Colleges Arturo Velasquez Institute, the Education Workforce Center (EWC) serves as a dedicated center and learning community, supporting the needs of educators across the Chicagoland area.  Starting with a focus on the early childhood workforce to help recruit and retain high-quality teachers and support staff, the grant funded initiative will expand to also support Elementary/Secondary, and Higher Education professionals, with services and resources provided at the EWC and its satellite site, community sites, and through virtual platforms. 

 

The Education Workforce Center (EWC) Specialist facilitates and provides support services and career guidance resources available to education professionals and students through the EWC, with a focus on early childhood education.  Oversees the intake and membership process to enroll participants in the EWC.

 

Working with key stakeholders, the Education Workforce Center (EWC) Specialist implements plans to deliver the services and provide the resources specified under the grant; builds program capacity for support services and expands access to external resources to ensure success as a student and professional in the education field.  Performs related duties as required

 

Note:  This is a grant funded position with available funding through February 2026.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

       Implements plans and processes to accomplish grant outcome objectives to include:

o   Increase recruitment to Early Childhood Education profession 

o   Increase retention in Early Childhood Education field

o   Increase commitment to early childhood profession

o   Equitable access to services and resources

       Coordinates the enrollment of education professionals in the EWC as members, guiding prospective members through the registration process as Continuing Education students with access to CCC facilities, resources, and services.

       Participates in providing orientation to students and education professionals applying for membership with the EWC. Conducts one-on-one sessions with interested and active education professionals.

       Maintains membership profiles of assigned EWC site(s). Responsible for the overall case management, tracking of EWC membership levels, and reporting on the use of services and resources. 

       Assists with guidance in the areas of academic offerings available in education concentration, resources available to support persistence, career-planning, and employment and job placement opportunities to students. 

       Supports marketing and outreach activities to promote the EWC and its services and resources available to students in the education field and education professionals through the EWC.

       Collaborates with the EWC team to ensure members have equitable access to resources and services across EWC sites including day and evening hours and availability of in-person and virtual services.

       Coordinates career advising/coaching services to students in the education field and referrals to available scholarships to help increase recruitment to the early childhood education profession. 

       Participates in the development and launch of a job search platform and the provision of job placement services for positions in early childhood education.

       Assists with professional development (PD) workshops and seminars for EWC members.  Oversees scheduling of PD events; sign-up and tracking of attendance; and review of post-PD sessions satisfaction survey. 

       Monitors and tracks the various activities supporting the grant’s goals and outcomes and gathers data to assess and measure success of key performance indicators. 

       Provides data and prepares reports documenting the EWC’s achievements for use in grant mandated reporting of performance in meeting grant objectives.

       Collaborates with college, university, workforce and employer partners to best serve EWC members and attract education professionals who may be prospective members.

       Works with the EWC Advisory Councils to ensure resources and services are responsive to the needs of education professionals.

       Assists in building processes to continually assess, maintain, and further develop suite of services and resources and partnerships.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Child Development, Social Services, or a closely related field.

       Three years of experience in workforce development, career services, and/or case management

       Experience in developing and facilitating professional development workshops and seminars

       Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

       Excellent organizational skills

       Ability to work effectively with students and different levels of staff within the organization

       Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and equity in education

       Must be able and willing to work some evenings and weekends

       Ability to work independently and as part of a team

       Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
