ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – CANNABIS STUDIES
WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE
Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks part-time faculty to teach cannabis studies courses to support students seeking a Basic Certificate in Applied Cannabis Studies, an Advanced Certificate in Cannabis Processing, and/or an Associate’s Degree in Applied Cannabis Studies. Credit-based cannabis studies curriculum and programming will be part of the offerings of the Environmental Technology Department.
Adjunct faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare, and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Part-time adjunct faculty will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Part-time faculty contribute to the overall operation of the college, support the mission of the institution, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students’ problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
· Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
· Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.
· Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
· Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.
· Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology; continuously reflects on and refines craft.
· Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
· Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
· Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
· Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Ability and willingness to maintain and uphold the professional standards of an academic environment and adhere to City Colleges of Chicago policies.
· Familiarity with and understanding of Illinois cannabis laws and regulations.
· Awareness of dispensary operations and cultivation processing.
· Two (2) years of teaching and/or training experience preferred.
· Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
· The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
· Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
· Disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
· Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred.
· Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.
· Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
ENTERING THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Responsible Vendor Certification.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working in the cannabis industry.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
INTRODUCTION TO CANNABIS
- Master’s Degree in Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Sciences, OR Greenhouse Management.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
CANNABIS HORTICULTURE/PLANT PROPAGATION REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in Horticulture OR Bachelor’s Degree in Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Sciences, OR Greenhouse Management.
- Experience in greenhouse or warehouse cultivation of cannabis or other plants.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
- Experience working with and maintaining High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for analysis.
- Familiarity with and understanding of the structural and physiological aspects of cannabis.
HEMP HORTICULTURE AND PROCESSING and CANNABIS QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Sciences, OR Chemistry.
- Experience working with and maintaining High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for analysis.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
CANNABIS AND THE LAW REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Paralegal Studies, OR Criminal Justice.
- Juris Doctorate preferred.
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE IN CANNABIS REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Paralegal Studies, OR Criminal Justice.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working in the cannabis industry.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
CANNABIS SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Sciences, OR Chemistry.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
MEDICINAL CANNABIS REQUIREMENTS
- Medical Doctor (MD), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) OR Master’s Degree in Nursing, Biology, Biomedicine, or Anatomy and Physiology.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
