SECURITY DIRECTOR
MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Malcolm X College is seeking a Security Director for the Security Department.

• Plans, establishes, and monitors appropriate security and emergency procedures and implements
• Provides leadership and guidance in times of crisis, conflict, and other challenges regarding the
• Prepares annual, monthly and weekly reports on work activities, crimes and incidents to include:
• Reviews daily incident reports for completeness and ensures follow-up actions, including
• Serves as part of college’s leadership tram; attends various meetings including President’s
• Functions as a key advisor to college administrators on campus safety issues and security operations
• Prepares and administers the department’s annual operating budget; monitors, reviews and
• Supervises college’s security staff; observes security officers in performance of duties for adherence
• Partners with Human Resources in the interviewing and hiring of security officers. Coordinates on HR matters to include payroll and timekeeping, and performance and disciplinary issues
• Monitors day-to-day operations and activities across various shifts. Prepares work schedules and
• Responds to and participates in the investigation of complaints and alleged crimes, acts of
• Participates in regular inspections of security equipment including cameras, door locks, security
• Represents the college at CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing) community meetings; participates and
• Maintains communication with Chicago Police Department (CPD) and other local law enforcement
• Works with Director of Athletics and facility/auxiliary services staff to develop procedures to
• Coordinates with Dean of Student Services on campus safety issues; participates in student
Emergency Preparedness / Security and Safety
• Coordinates with Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Access Center on emergency
• Establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and
• Collaborates with district staff in the review and updating of security policies, procedures, and
• Works with district office to coordinate and schedule mandated on-line training programs for
• Oversees and manages special projects and assignments as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the social sciences, criminal justice,
• Four years of supervisory experience in law enforcement at the city, state, or federal level
• Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR must be attained within one year of employment
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills along with the ability to work collaboratively with
• Knowledge of state and local law enforcement laws and Chicago police, fire and emergency
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws relating to campus safety including the Clery Act, Title IX,
• Knowledgeable of security technologies to include access control systems, emergency response
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to analyze reports and records, collate data and prepare reports required under federal and
• Ability to represent CCC’s internal and external constituencies and to make presentations on safety,
• Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
• Ability to think and act coherently during an emergency
• Ability to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
