Malcolm X College is seeking a Work Based Learning Coordinator in Health Science's Community Health Worker program. Reporting to the Director - Work Based Education/Learning and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Health Sciences, the Work Based Learning Coordinator - Health Sciences (Community Health Worker Program) coordinates and oversees the work based learning component of the Community Health Worker program’s curriculum, facilitating student opportunities for work based learning by working with key stakeholders to create and expand opportunities to include field experiences, internships, and apprenticeships. Performs related duties as required.

The mission of the Malcolm X College Community Health Worker Program is to educate students to enter the field as knowledgeable and culturally competent CHWs. The program seeks to equip graduates with skills to provide compassionate and holistic advocacy to facilitate improved health care outcomes to members of the communities they serve.
The Work Based Learning Coordinator - Health Sciences (CHWP) primary accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in soliciting and obtaining agreements with private and public area employers and organizations to provide work-based learning opportunities
- Place students to complete the work-based learning component of their curriculum
- Oversee and monitor the progress and performance of students
- Evaluate and assess the quality of work-based learning provided by organizations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conducts outreach and engages hospitals, health clinics, community-based organizations, government agencies, research universities, industry partners, and the non-profit sectors to solicit their participation to create and expand partnerships providing work based learning opportunities to students enrolled in the college’s Community Health Worker Program
- Builds and maintains working relationships with public and private organizations entering into agreements with the college to provide students work-based learning opportunities, ensuring open lines of communication to address issues and ensure the efficient placement, monitoring and assessment of students.
- Supports initiatives to increase student participation in work-based learning opportunities including developing marketing strategies and materials that promote opportunities.
- Develops, organizes, and conducts workshops, informational sessions, and related events for students and area businesses/organizations.
- Coordinates the approval process by guiding students and employers through the required paperwork, documents, and processes (i.e. clinical education affiliation agreements, memos of understanding, learning agreements, and evaluations) to participate in the work-based learning program.
- Maintain the central repository of work based learning records including, but not limited to, student lists, employer and other external partner lists, field experience credits awarded, etc. in addition to data metrics directed by Administration.
- Implement City Colleges work based learning procedures; develop and manage student/employer records; and collect data for use in preparing reports related to the program.
- Stay updated on the core competency and skill requirements of the profession from the perspective of accrediting and certification body, employers, students, and other workforce partners to provide input for curriculum enhancement.
- Conducts partner site visits to assess quality of work-based learning experiences to ensure supportive mentorship and supervision of tasks, activities, and projects relevant to the core skills and competencies.
- Places, evaluates, guides, and tracks student work based learning activities in accordance with program procedures to ensure student learning outcomes are met and students have sufficiently developed their skills and competencies.
- Collaborate with Career Services as needed to assist students with career development, resume/cover letter writing, etc. Partners to develop workshops that promote career self-reliance and promotes exposure to employment opportunities for CCC students.
- As needed, works varied hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and reports in support of work based learning programs.
- Performs related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Social Work, Community Psychology, or related social science degree
- Master’s degree preferred
- Two years of experience in community health. Experience in work-based learning coordination or academic setting preferred.
- Experience developing partnerships and ongoing relationship building.
- Must be willing and able to work varied hours which may include evening and/or weekends
- Significant interpersonal skills with an ability to navigate conflict resolution with empathy and logic
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
- Ability to maintain confidential information on the program and student records
- Ability to approach work with an equity and trauma informed lens while applying principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness
- Interest in training and diversifying the workforce and championing equity and inclusion within the healthcare industry
- Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Must be self-directed and able to prioritize work
- Must be able to meet deadlines and communicate potential delays
- Must be able to participate and interact as a team player on various projects throughout the District
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, MS Teams, and SharePoint)

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
