Valor’s production facility includes more than 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space as well 3,000 square feet of designated explosive manufacturing space and four dedicated bunkers for explosive materials storage.
Summary: The Buyer I is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies or equipment. Their duties include negotiating deals with suppliers, researching possible item selections and taking inventory of current products. The position requires extensive research and the ability to negotiate contracts with suppliers, manage an inventory, evaluate quality goods, and follow a budget. The Buyer 1 will be expected to communicate effectively and use their logical judgments, especially when dealing with adjustments and meeting deadlines.
Essential Functions
- Support Lean 5S initiatives to achieve a workplace that is clean, uncluttered, safe, and well organized to help reduce waste and optimize productivity
- Collaborate with Buyer II/III, Senior Buyer, and Planning/Scheduling to prioritize materials requirements and ensure the production schedule is met
- Responsible for placing Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) purchases
- Proficiently utilize ERP software to manage procurement functions
- Initiate purchase orders for submission to suppliers ensuring competitive business and cost savings measures
- Work closely with receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrive with correct documentation
- Trace delinquent purchase orders, late deliveries, and engages supervision for solutions
- Assists with conducting inventory audits
- Effectively negotiate with suppliers
- Process daily purchasing transactions with associated suppliers, proposes discounts and cost reductions
- Ensure vendors and suppliers meet all quality requirements and validate requirements with Quality Assurance
- Schedule purchase orders for blanket order delivery requirements against customer’s contract requirements
- Exhibit professionalism and attention to detail in all tasks
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Logistics, or related field; one year of related experience or a combination of education and experience pertaining to MRO procurement or government contracting may be substituted for degree requirement.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder
- Possess a valid driver license and maintain eligibility to drive company vehicles
- Must pass initial and subsequent background checks to include maintaining eligibility according to federal requirements and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
- Must pass preemployment and subsequent drug and alcohol screenings
- Comply with internal non-disclosure agreement requirements
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language
- Basic math skills (i.e., multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Physical Requirements:
RARE (less than 10%): Crawling, handling chemicals, climbing stairs and ladder, wearing a respirator, lifting over 40 lbs.
OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Stretching arms above head, lifting over 15 lbs. to 30 lbs.
FREQUENT (up to 66%): Bending, walking, pushing, transport, range-of-motion, reaching, twisting, sweeping, balancing, walking on uneven surfaces, gripping, lifting to 15 lbs., able to withstand loud noise
