What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Contracting (GC) Estimator position at CCI Industrial Constructors?
The role will lead General Construction Estimating efforts that will coordinate full estimating services for commercial, light industrial and heavy industrial projects from receipt of bid documents through bid day. Projects will range from new construction, renovations, expansions, and various capital construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Ability to develop and understand scope requirements and to issue subcontracts for various trade partners.
- Work with in-house self-perform divisions to offer added value propositions.
- Manage subcontractor bid invitations for competitive pricing.
- Read and comprehend technical documents such as specifications, scope of work, drawings and reports.
- Identify competitive edge strategies and follow through to project award.
- Develop a project schedule from bid document information.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of estimate and proposals.
- Price general conditions and manpower projections.
- Write proper scopes of work during bidding phase and upon award.
- Engage in subcontractor proposal review meetings.
- Obtain and evaluate comparative quotations for materials and sub-contractor services.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of contract structure, business law, insurance and bonding issues.
- Schedule, run and effectively document meetings.
- Present proposals, schedules and execution plans to owner and customers.
- Identify, review and communicate contractual requirements (Risk Factors, Schedule, Insurance, Penalties, etc.) with supervisors and develop an action plan for the estimate and project construction.
- Conduct job hand-offs with project managers and project engineers.
- Complete any assigned training and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Finance preferred; or equivalent field experience.
- Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of experience working as an Estimator in the construction industry.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally throughout Michigan and surrounding states, work off hours and handle multiple jobs.
- Software proficiency in MS Word, Bluebeam, Excel, Adobe, Project and Primavera P6
- Organized, responsive, strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work with limited information and develop of scope of work.
