Seeking an energetic & experienced MEDICAL OFFICE BILLING SPECIALIST to join our established medical practice team!
Responsibilities to include clerical tasks such as handling billing inquiries, completing the daily deposit, greeting patients and visitors, calling patients for scheduling purposes, answering and routing calls, scheduling appointments according to schedule guidelines, being a back-up for check-in and check out.
The ideal candidate will be a positive team player with the ability to work in a very fast-paced environment, multi-tasking while maintaining a cool, calm, and professional demeanor. Must present a professional public image, both visual and over the phone. Tasks must be performed with accuracy and within specific time frames.
This is NOT an entry-level position, only candidates with previous medical office experience will be considered.
JOB DUTIES
- Back up/ assistant for Front Office Lead. When Front Office Lead is out, Billing Specialist is the designated supervisor for Front Office staff.
- Completes daily balances and bank deposit slips for patient payments.
- Answer all billing inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and staff
- Monitor patient schedules to keep office flow on target
- Follows opening and closing procedures
- Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phone
- Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette
- Back up for Front Office staff when someone calls out. Back up for check-in, check-out, insurance verification, scheduling, medical records, or referrals.
- Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information
- Facilitates patient flow by efficiently checking in all patients, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff
- Collects patient co-pays and balances
- Contacts patients to schedule appointments as needed
- Run daily insurance verification for upcoming patient appointments
- Pull, scan and file medical records as requested
- Responds to inquiries by patients, prospective patients, and visitors in a courteous manner
- Protects patient confidentiality, making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with supervising office staff or completing administrative duties
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
- Must be able to review patient accounts and explain account balances, adjustments, and insurance payments.
- Ability to explain insurance benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and how they relate to individual patient plans.
- Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
- Intermediate to advanced phone skills; able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of Clinic patients/clients/visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.
- Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the department.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills; Additional language abilities desirable.
- Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures.
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Billing experience preferred.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
- Minimum of two years related medical office experience and/ or equivalent combination of education and experience.
