GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct care to patients within the scope of practice as outlined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act.  The Licensed Practical Nurse contributes to the meeting of the mission and goals of the CCM Health & the Surgery Department, and meets the requirements of the federal, state and local regulatory or accrediting agencies. Provides care to patients of all ages, as noted in the age-related categories section. Position requires a high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers and others.  Provides expanded perioperative care for all patients receiving services in the perioperative environment. Delivery of care through the framework of the nursing process in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient.  Must maintain the sterile field, pass instrumentation, equipment and supplies to the surgeon and surgical assistant as needed.  Assess and anticipate the needs of the patient and surgeon and provide the necessary items in order of need, medication preparation and handling with the circulating RN, count necessary items with the circulating RN, specimen care with the circulating RN, and have a choice of dressing application.
 
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

1. Current Licensed Practical Nursing registration in the state of Minnesota.
2. Current BLS Certification.

1. Knowledge of current principles and techniques of the nursing practice
2. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, personnel and physicians
3. Adheres to organizational and department specific safety standards and guidelines
4. Recognizes the legal limits of nursing practice
5. Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times
6. Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members, ability to make rapid, accurate decisions
7. Maintains professional competency through continuing education and independent study in perioperative setting
8. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions

EXPERIENCE:
Perioperative/Operating Room work experience is preferred.
