POSITION: Medical Interpreter - Chuukese
DEPARTMENT: Administration
HOURS: 1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week
WAGE RANGE: $26.05 - $33.50
General Responsibilities
Provides accurate and effective interpretation and translation for a patient encounter, including medical procedures, necessary paperwork, medication information and education, as well as other interactions for non-English speaking patients (adults and children), their families and CCM Health staff. Interaction may occur in person and/or on the telephone. Assists the patient care teams with all other tasks as assigned.

Education/Training
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required.
- Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) by Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) by National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) certification or other healthcare interpreting certificate required 3 months after hire.
- Completion of approved medical terminology course preferred
- BLS required upon hire.
- Fluency in English and Chuukese, both oral and written.
- Ability to accurately work in consecutive mode and sight translate into and from working language(s).
- Must be able to read and write in English and the target language.
- Must have knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to be served.
- Must have good interpersonal, customer service, and basic computer skills.
- Good interpersonal, organizational, and time- management skills
- High level of customer service and positive approach
- May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting
- 1 or more years of experience as an interpreter preferred.
- Medical interpreting in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Professional interpreting experience preferred.
- Strong Medical terminology preferred.
