What are the responsibilities and job description for the CPSEI Academic Tutor / Proctor - Multiple Temporary Positions position at CCV - Staff?
The Corrections Post-Secondary Education Initiative (CPSEI) is a federally funded program working to provide educational opportunities to incarcerated Vermonters and the staff at the Department of Corrections. We are looking for dynamic and engaging people who would like to be Academic Tutors for this program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide inter/multidisciplinary support to individuals and small groups:
- Support student growth, development, and proficiency with assignments and concepts in Math, English, Writing, and Research;
- Refer students to additional academic supports and resources;
- Support students to self-assess strengths and challenges;
- Promote independent student learning.
Support students in a manner consistent with the mission, purpose of tutoring, and desired outcomes for students:
- Provide a safe, supportive learning environment;
- Nurture holistic student development by promoting success in school and life;
- Support student to identify learning strengths;
- Facilitate student confidence to overcome challenges and value themselves as college-level learners;
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
Supervision received from Associate Director | CPSEI. Senior Staff Assistant may oversee time entry. Functional supervision includes face-to-face and digital communication to:
- Explore mentor strengths and create a framework to apply these skills in the CCV Corrections Education Peer Mentoring Program;
- Explore professional needs and create a framework to develop best practices in the CCV Corrections Education Peer Tutoring Program;
- Support professional development plan for ‘life after CCV;’
- Develop a unique plan to strengthen and expand resources;
- Provide relevant training and support specific to the Department of Corrections and CPSEI/Corrections Education.
Minimum Qualifications
Essential skills, knowledge, and abilities for the position include:
- Basic knowledge and demonstrated use of college-level writing and study skills;
- Aptitude to work independently and as part of a team;
- Comfort supporting students with diverse learning styles and abilities;
- Passion to motivate and inspire students challenged by school;
- Willingness to grow and develop as an educator.
Compensation: Between $16 - $30 per hour and based on level of education completed.
