What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Center Academic Mentor - Work Study Opportunity position at CCV-Student?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide inter/multidisciplinary support to individuals and small groups:
- Support student growth, development, and proficiency with assignments and concepts in Math, English, Writing, and Research;
- Refer students to additional academic supports and resources;
- Support students to self-assess strengths and challenges;
- Promote independent student learning.
Support students in a manner consistent with the mission, purposes of tutoring, and desired outcome for students at the Learning Center:
- Provide a safe, supportive learning environment;
- Nurture holistic student development by promoting success in school and life;
- Support students to identify learning strengths;
- Facilitate student confidence to overcome challenges and value themselves as college-level learners.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision received from the Academic Coordinator. Office Manager may oversee time entry. Functional supervision includes face-to-face and digital communication to:
- Explore mentor strengths, and create a framework to apply these skills in the Learning Center.
- Explore professional needs, and create a framework to develop best practices in the Learning Center.
- Support a professional development plan for “life after CCV.”
- Develop a unique plan to strengthen and expand Learning Center resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a current CCV student; inter/multidisciplinary content expertise; interest in teaching & learning.
Essential skills, knowledge, and abilities for this position include:
- Basic knowledge and demonstrated use of college-level writing and study skills.
- Aptitude to work independently and as part of a team;
- Comfort supporting students with diverse learning styles and abilities;
- Passion to motivate and inspire students challenged by school;
- Willingness to grow and develop as an educator.
- CCV degree-seeking student, financial aid qualified
Compensation : $16.00 per hour (unless noted otherwise on contract)
