What are the responsibilities and job description for the Smart Start Peer Mentor position at CCV-Student?
CCV is looking for students who are interested in working in a new program called Smart Start. The Smart Start program is a new initiative by CCV to create an extended in-person orientation experience during the first three to four weeks of the semester. As a Smart Start Peer Mentor, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment that fosters a sense of belonging and community among your peers.
This program will begin during the Spring 2025 semester in the following CCV centers: Winooski, Montpelier, Newport, Rutland, Brattleboro, Bennington, St. Albans, and Upper Valley.
This position is available to current CCV students. Work-study eligibility is not required but it is considered and can be utilized to fund this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a welcoming environment that fosters belonging and community among students;
- Proactively outreach to individuals, small groups, and classes, offering an overview of CCV’s services and resources;
- Support students in a manner consistent with the mission, purposes of peer mentoring, and desired outcome for students to develop Knowledge, Skills, and Beliefs to be successful in college;
- Foster an inclusive, supportive environment;
- Refer students to additional academic and general supports and resources;
- Collaborate with center staff and faculty;
- Foster student confidence to overcome challenges and value themselves as college-level learners;
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision received from the Director of Student Services. Office Manager may oversee time entry.
Compensation : $16.00 per hour
