General Job Description for: Civil Superintendent

This is a skilled supervisory position in the construction and maintenance of Civil Projects. This individual may supervise various phases of construction, including coordinating subcontractors, materials, and equipment delivery. Supervision is exercised over a crew of skilled and unskilled workers or two or more small crews assigned to individual projects throughout the facilities. It enforces safety procedures, conducts inspections, and ensures quality standards are met throughout the project. Work is subject to periodic review for results obtained, changes in work methods, and adherence to departmental policies.

Job Duties and Task for: Civil Superintendent

• Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, etc. to determine project needs
• Set performance goals and deadlines
• Plan construction processes
• Estimate costs and ensure the project is on budget
• Supervise staff and provide constructive feedback
• Monitor and report on project progress
• Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
• Implement safety and quality guidelines
• Order the appropriate equipment and arrange for regular maintenance
• Keep track of material stock and orders
• Ensure the job site remains safe, clean, and orderly
• Resolve on-site issues and emergencies.
  
  

Knowledge, Experience, and Education Required for: Civil Superintendent

• Previous experience as a construction superintendent or in a similar role
• 10 years’ experience in like construction
• Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites
• In-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
• Familiarity with CAD software
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to lead and inspire
• High School Diploma
• Associates Degree Preferred
  
  

Working Conditions: Working conditions these positions will vary depending on the job site but will typically require the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to; hard-hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy boots. Depending on the specific requirements of the job site, the use of H2S monitor, respirator, Flame Retardant clothing, or fall protection harness might be required. The incumbent may also be exposed to dirt, dust, particulate matter, fumes, odors, smoke, loud noise, mechanical moving parts, or vibration. There is also the potential for exposure to ambient weather extremes of heat, cold, or varying degrees of moisture.
