Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive HR Assistant to support our HR Manager and assist in managing all aspects of human resources for our residential construction site. The HR Assistant will help with recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, safety compliance, and general HR operations to ensure the organization runs smoothly and complies with labor laws.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Help screen resumes, schedule interviews, and communicate with candidates.
- Coordinate with hiring managers to ensure the recruitment process runs efficiently.
- Help facilitate the new hire process by preparing paperwork, conducting initial orientations, and ensuring that employees complete required documentation (e.g., I-9 forms, tax forms).
- Track new hire safety training, certifications, and any required licensing.
- Assist with payroll data entry and ensure timesheets are submitted accurately by construction crews and office staff.
- Help employees with benefits enrollment, questions, and changes, under the guidance of the HR Manager.
- Assist in maintaining accurate employee records in the HR system.
- Support the HR Manager in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including safety regulations specific to construction (e.g., OSHA standards).
- Help track and maintain certifications and training for construction site workers.
- Assist with safety audits and reporting.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related inquiries or concerns, escalating issues as needed to the HR Manager.
- Help coordinate employee engagement activities, including safety meetings or recognition programs.
- Assist with conflict resolution and ensure workplace issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Prepare HR reports or presentations as requested by the HR Manager.
- Handle general office tasks such as filing, organizing employee files, and scheduling HR-related meetings.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- The position will be based primarily at the construction site to provide direct HR support to employees on-site.
- Occasional visits to the office for administrative tasks may be required.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred).
- 1-2 years of experience in an administrative or HR support role, ideally within construction or a similar industry.
- Strong knowledge of HR processes (recruitment, onboarding, payroll, compliance).
- Familiarity with construction industry safety standards (OSHA) and labor laws is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with an ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HR software (e.g., ADP, Paychex) is a bonus.
- Understanding of construction worker certifications, safety training, and compliance regulations.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
