Overview:
CDL Utilities has an immediate need for a skilled and reliable Fiber Splicer. We are looking for a hard-working individual capable of working extended hours and occasionally on weekends for emergencies or special situations. The work is predominantly outdoors, and the candidate must be prepared to work in different types of weather conditions. We primarily work with local commercial clients on Long Island, but some travel may be necessary. Our ideal candidate has experience installing, prepping, splicing, and testing Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments.
Responsibilities:
- Install, prepare, splice, and test Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments
- Interpret technical drawings/maps and complete daily production reports
- Operate and maintain technical equipment, such as fusion splicers, OTDRs, OFIs, Ribbonizers, Fiber Splitters, etc.
- Ensure equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
- Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a fiber technician or fiber splicer.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to pass drug, criminal, and background checks
- Ability to communicate effectively with Crew Leaders, customers, employees, etc.
- Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the utility construction industry or related construction fields
- Prior experience installing, preparing, splicing, and testing Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments
- Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps
- Ability to speak and/or read both English and Spanish
