Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Route Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to all traffic regulations and company policies. This role requires strong driving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage routes effectively.
Route Details:
Every Monday Wednesday and Friday. Starts in Baker City OR to La Grande to Pendleton to another yet to be determined location within 25 miles and back to Baker City, OR.
Total route miles is approximately 225 round trip. 1 loop per day every Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Total time is approximately 3 hours not including weather/traffic delays. Any additional work that is required beyond the scope of this requirement will be additional compensation to the route driver.
Driver must have their own pick up truck with the capacity to haul a company provided trailer weighing a maximum of 10,000 pounds. The trailer comes equipped with a rear ramp, the driver and another warehouse professional will use a pallet jack to safely load and unload the pallets into the trailer. Fork lift will not be used by the route driver.
All applicants must fill out an owner operator contract. Must provide proof of truck insurance and a valid CDL is preferred but not required. Pay is weekly.
Responsibilities
- Operate trailers and pick up trucks for the delivery of goods to various locations on a specific route.
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring that all items are secured properly during transit.
- Follow designated routes for timely deliveries, adjusting as necessary for traffic or weather conditions.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including logs of mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery confirmations.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure efficient loading and unloading processes.
- Utilize a pallet jack when necessary for loading heavy or bulky items.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding any issues or delays during route driving.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is not required but is preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial driving, particularly with cargo trailers.
- Familiarity with route driving and navigation systems.
- Ability to lift heavy loads (up to 50 pounds) and perform physical tasks associated with moving cargo.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing delivery schedules.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with team members and customers.
- Previous experience in warehouse operations is a plus but not required.
