Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Tool and Die Supervisor to oversee the operations in our tool department. This position is responsible for supervising and assigning work from the conception of tools and dies through product completion in various areas, including EDM, CNC, Basic Tool and Die, and Blanking and Progressive Dies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all tool and die repairs and new builds
- Review and correct employees’ computer labor entries
- Review job cards and prints for accuracy and document all changes
- Designate styles of tools to be built and materials to be used
- Design fixtures, short run tooling, blanking dies, draw dies, forming dies, and progressive dies, and provide instructions to toolmakers
- Order tool room supplies and specialty items needed for tooling
- Collaborate with outside vendors and customers
- Make recommendations for improvements to processes, equipment, etc.
- Stay current with tooling knowledge and technology
- Communicate across all departments regarding tooling
- Employee development and training
- Handle employee discipline as necessary
- Conduct employee reviews and recommend pay increases to the Plant Manager
- Address employee conflicts, concerns, and questions promptly
- Maintain confidentiality and handle information appropriately
- Ensure all decisions comply with applicable state and federal laws
- Actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment
- Perform other duties as needed to support the work process
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge:
- Broad knowledge of tool and die practices (short and long run)
- Strong understanding of tool practices, basic machining, metallurgy, and heat treatment
- Experience with short run tool design concepts
- Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in shop math
- Blueprint reading and interpreting skills
- Effective time management and delegation skills
- High mechanical aptitude
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication abilities
- Team player with a willingness to contribute to the tool room process
- Ability and willingness to wear necessary PPE
- Safety and quality-oriented
- Experience:
- 10 years of machine shop experience, including punch press operation, setup, short run tool design, and instruction/training
- 1 years of supervisory experience (leadership experience required)
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced, challenging job shop production environment
- Constantly changing priorities
- Expected work schedule: 45 hours per week
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required
Level:
This position works under minimal supervision and requires a significant degree of discretion and independent judgment.
