Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for managing the divisions safety coordinators and senior safety coordinators in the areas of audits, incident investigations, and day-to-day operations of projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage field safety staff, surveys, audits, investigations, collect information and data as required to support the daily operation the projects.
- Ensure Velocity reports are submitted daily by safety coordinators and then review reports for completeness.
- Follow up with coordinators and site supervision to ensure recommended corrective actions have been taken for all reported deficiencies.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable CEC policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and feedback to project leadership, including but not limited to Project Managers, APMs, site managers, Superintendents, Forman, and team leads.
- Maintain professional relationship with the owners, safety representatives, the safety and health community in the area. and project leadership.
- Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and near misses occurring on CEC projects. Communicate findings with the Safety Director.
- Maintain records, reports and documents that are required to meet corporate, client or regulatory requirements.
- When performing project site visits, document findings, and develop corrective action plans for observed risks.
- Work with senior leadership in pre-construction activities to ensure safe execution of work.
- Monitor Subcontractor performance.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Occupational Safety or Health preferred.
- Recognized certification as a Safety Professional i.e., CSP, ASP, CHST, STS, CSHO-C .
- OSHA 500 & 501 and associated competent person training.
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ progressive experience in the management of safety and health processes.
- A minimum of 5 years’ management level experience.
Required Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Supports claim management and Return to Work Programs.
- Some overnight travel may be required.
- Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient in computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
- Bi-lingual preferred: English /Spanish.

- Must be able to travers and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing or stretching.
- The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 75 pounds
- Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
- Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- May require travel.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
- Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
