What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Welfare Enforcement Officer- Animal Shelter position at Cecil County Government?
Position Summary Position is responsible for adherence to rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to animal control and the humane care, confinement, and cruelty investigation of animals. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities 1. Ensures welfare enforcement initiatives are well-coordinated, effective, efficient, and in compliance with local, state, and Federal regulations, as well as industry best practices. 2. Invests in public safety, safe and human sheltering, community education, and ensures enforcement best practices are utilized at all times. 3. Maintains adequate reports on all enforcement responses. 4. Conducts animal welfare outreach and education; reviews applicable ordinances. 5. Provides oversight of animal care and handling; performs euthanasia as required. 6. Investigates cruelty complaints in timely and efficient manner and provides testimony as required. 7. Responds to animal welfare calls and complaints; transports stray and injured animals.
Minimum Qualification Requirements Education High School Diploma or G.E.D. Experience Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an animal shelter or animal control.
Certificate(s) and/or License(s) 1. Possession of a valid Class “C” non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points. 2. Rabies pre-exposure vaccination, if currently unvaccinated, must obtained within sixty (60) days of employment (at County expense).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 1. Knowledge of local, state, and Federal laws and regulations governing the enforcement of animal welfare. 2. Knowledge of animal care enforcement, behavior, and handling requirements. 3. Ability to effectively supervise, direct, evaluate, and coach subordinates. 4. Effective leadership skills. 5. Ability to effective compile and analyze fiscal and statistical data. 6. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with boards, public officials, co-workers, and the general public.
